Which brand of paint did you use for your headlight (Blackout)

For those who painted their headlight housing, can you please tell me the paint you used?

Brand
Matte/Gloss/Semi/Gold/
Plastidip/Plastic Paint/Etc

When you say "Painted headlights" - You are indicating the internal housing, correct? After baking?

Personally did this on my old car, not on the Subie yet, but:

High-temp engine block paint in flat black. Three coats. And then a clear coat of matte finish.

Only reason I went high-temp is projectors tend to get fairly warm, and down the road I didn't want any kind of flaking.

I think I used Krylon for plastics. Either that or Rustoleum.

Yes sorry, I thought housing automatically meant the internal of it. Smart to go with high temp.

I think of going semi gloss, I am hesitant

Transparent black/smoke/vht looks really good as a 'black chrome' look.

I have this for my high beam(duplicolor black Chrome kit). The chrome has to be super clean or it doesn't stick well. Made weird patches in the paint. I tried again with my turn signals and didn't work out at all. I went semi-gloss black once it dried.

The semi-gloss looks really good. I almost want to pick up another set and try gloss.

Prep work should be a given for any paint job.

Translucent paint is always going to be more sensative than solids. The blotchiness can be from quite a few senarios ranging from incorrect application to paint not being shaken up enough. Remember your spraying ontop of a smooth surface (with no tooth) applying paint to wet intially will cause it to clump up. However some rattle cans will just be patchy. Similar ecample would by if you ever attempt a very light smoke paint job on tailights with a rattle can. Due to the way the paint is sprayed you will have to due quite a few coats before the color will lay evenly. Warming the can's in some warm water or in the sun will due wonder for makeing them spray better.
