Interesting story - dealership pays big for mistake

I'm not sure if anyone already posted this.

VA man was falsely arrested because car dealership made up accusation of stolen vehicle. He was awarded $2.2 mil.

correction: Kmbkk "Hasn't been awarded $2.2M, just what the lawsuit is asking." but I hope he gets the car for free at the minimum.

This thread should really be in General Auto or Off-Topic:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=6

Other than that, the dealership claiming the vehicle as stolen was really dumb... especially since the guy had all the paperwork to prove that he owned it.

I don't really think that this has anything to do with Chevy. Nor would they be responsible for the damages in any way, shape or form.

This is a small dealer with what looks like only to have three or four salesman. It could have happened to any dealer under any number of different mfr's.

It was a simple dealer unwind/trade that got screwed up. All they had to do was select another vehicle that cost the same/close and do the paperwork again.

Cool find but why does everyone think the Scion FR-S General Forum is where you can post EVERYTHING?

And this is what's wrong with the world...I'd be happy with an apology and taking the cheap price.
People like this, who's thoughts are always "ooh this happened to me, I'm gonna make $$$" are the reason so many things are illegal, or why almost anything you do is marred by safety procedures, etc that are way overkill. Just IN CASE someone gets hurt.
Ie. someone blows their hand off with fire crackers...well we'll make firecrackers illegal for everyone...even though that first person was likely being an idiot and probably deserved that stump.

That's what I came to post. Reading comprehension...it matters. He won't get anywhere near $2.2mil. In fact I bet he doesn't get much at all, but he will get something.

I seriously doubt that he will get 2.2 mil. Not even 1 mil.

He got a $39k Traverse (seriously ???) for just under $34k. That's still probably over invoice FFS...

Then the dealer called the cops and he was jailed for 4 hours because he talked a salesman down to around invoice?

I don't know if he deserves $2.2M for it but that dealer does need a metaphorical kick in the balls for that move.

There are damages in this case, and as such he should be awarded something compensatory. If myself or anyone in my family were arrested and detained for something like this, i would flip the F*** out. and then id sue. so i dont blame him one bit. he wont get 2.2M but he will likely get that car for free in the settlement he can negotiate.

the dealer was clearly in the wrong, and did something illegal. im surprised the cops havent charged them with making a false police report yet.

I absolutely agree that the dealer should be prosecuted to the extent possible, however, he was there for four hours. Wow. It's not like a big jail daddy got to him first...if he had, sure I'd sue too, but if not...he should be happy with a cheaper car, a formal apology and the dealer getting done.
All these people have one unfortunate thing happen and BOOM, I can be rich for no good reason. Great mindset.
I'm not saying that it's an American ideology, but it sure makes me happy we moved to Australia.
