Lots of engines have their filters right on top, makes oil changes a breeze. Not anything new!

I hate plugs with a passion on boxers. Have't done plugs on a V8, but I hear they're a bitch too. The engine bays are always crowded on boxers, gotta take everything out to do anything. Or at least that's what working on the WRX felt like.

From what I've seen you just remove the intake manifold & they are sunk down in the block, just need the right tools & patience. I believe it's that way with most Subaru boxers at least in the WRXs. That said there is a lot more room in this engine bay than any Impreza, so I think it will be that much easier to work on.

This thread got me so excited, can't wait to take mine apart!

It's the same way the germans do it, makes changing the oil/filter very easy. It's like that on my mercedes

It sure looks like there is room for a turbo underneath the motor to me.

For me im liking the crank and short skirt pistons.

Just screams high rpm to me.

Also not liking the single drive belt for the access.

Timing belt looks like its a 8hr job to change.

The endlinks on my GTI are similar in length to the ones on the 86.

By connecting the endlink directly to the strut gives the sway bars a 1:1 motion ratio throughout the suspension travel, so a smaller bar can be used to achieve the level of roll stiffness needed.

I never had a problem changing plugs on my MY01 WRX. 20 minutes and it was done... Minor servicing on the old girl was a breeze!

I believe you'll actually need to remove the front wheels to do these. You can see what looks like the coil packs on the side of the engine. After you remove the wheels, it looks like a breeze. Still more time consuming then a typical 4cyl.
