I can see the FR-S/Supra confusion for somebody who only knows the names of cars but isn't in the know, how anyone would confuse a Supra for a DMC... maybe because only drug dealers drive Supras these days?

Last week one of our vendors at work stopped by the office and says "Wow, I saw your new Jag out there".

Eh, add another 0. You'll be fineeeeee.

Most people that I've talked to that have seen / heard of the car since it came out generally say "oh, you mean that scion that looks like a porsche? Yeah, that's nice."

Took a picture next to a Cayman S the other day, it really does share some of the lines of the car. Especially on the windows on the side, definitely more 2000 gt for the rear fender bulge though it also somewhat shares that with the cayman.

I would definitely say your massive wing definitely adds to the Supra misnomer.

That being said, I remember back when the second generation MR-2 came out and for about a month and a half, my step-dad had the only one in a three-state region. We were regularly asked if it was a Porsche or Ferrari.

I'd say it has everything to do with the idea of it being a car that is still uncommon and looks more expensive than it is.

Thanks for all your answers, good to see I'm not the only one to face this "issue" :-)

Well, but why then bothering with names of cars you dont know. If they look the same to them they shouldnt care about the name either.

I've got the T badge on the car, but the supra was not really sold well over here, so it is more exotic to see an MKIV Supra on our streets than an ferrari. I'd rather say the GT86 looks like a celica, and also on the "what's the first sporty car from toyota that i can remember" it would be the celica. Even with the wing, because we had alot of GT-Four ST205 Celicas sold over here with the Rally/Big Wing.

At least I'm not the only one experiencing this ;-)

Agreed on this, I rather see some early Supra/early Celica Designs in the Car than any 2000GT or AE86. Except for some part of the fenders and the window. But from the "feeling" its rather an Celica for me than anything else

Well, the MR2 did also look a bit like a small ferrari, at least in red. Over here Ferrari and especially Porsches are not that rare on the roads, so basically if youre not driving at least an Lambo or an McLaren nobody cares to much about "european exotic".

A female friend was talking about wanting a sports car for her next car so I asked if she saw the pictures I had posted on facebook and she responded by asking if it was a 350 or a 370. >_>

ThinkGeek is good people. My girlfriend likes her Paper Rock Scissors Lizard Spock t-shirt from them. (It's from an American situational comedy television series called Big Bang Theory about four science professor geeks. They always choose Spock and nobody ever wins. ):

Exactly. Anyone who would confuse these cars with a Supra obviously isn't a car person. It does seem surprising that a non-car person would even think of a Supra though. Hmm...maybe the guy was just an idiot. Or legally blind.

Wow, remember the days when America built quality engineered masterpieces. When other countries desired to have American designed and built products because we were at the top of the technological and economic food chain. Now what do we poop out on the world? Snuggies?! Please don't tell me that you also have the magic bullet... As an American, I'd like to formally apologize to the world for the recent retail terrorism we have unleashed on you.

I have heard tell of such things.

This is why we make t-shirts the old fashioned way.
