UPDATE STATUS!

Went to the dealership today and was told that Toyota wants to tear it down but I need to sign to authorize to do so. He told me that this is the deal... When we tear down the engine all the way down to point of failure, at that moment toyota wants to see what got damaged. That point Toyota would decide to either replace the engine or rebuild the engine or not fix it at all.

If toyota will not accept the claim, I have to pay $1,000 dollars for the work of the tear down.

If I want to come out of my own money to rebuild it... I CAN if i chose to...

If toyota does not claim it....And I decide to take it somewhere else...I would still have to pay $1,000 dollars for the "Tear down" so I can tow it to a local shop and have them rebuild it for me... Toyota will not put the parts back in the motor. It will be left the way it is with the tear down gutted out...

Khris Swenson (Certified Service Consultant) tells me that with the maintenance record I have and car not being modified and car is under warranty he's highly sure that toyota will claim the warranty rebuild.

Let's hope we cross fingers ;(

I've had the same sound for over 3 months. My engine finally blew it's lid last saturday. It's still in the shop.

The mechanic stated that if I brought it in before this, they wouldn't have warrantied it, but because the engine failed they are replacing the engine. All covered under the warranty. Also I got the extended warranty to 100k miles.

wow...another engine failure. I wonder how many engines are biting the dust that we do not know about? Did they give you any specific information on exactly how it failed??

The tech said that a piston rod failed. I'll try to get more details when I get it back.

this is exactly what this says on the toyota paper

"Front Cylinder Head show signs of oil starvation, the customer understands this estimate is for disassembley and internal examination only, to determine final cost, customer understands if vechicle is not covered under warranty and work is declined customer will receive vehicle in a disassembled state. Customer understands and auth work $1000.00+tax"

meh, they should cover u under warranty since ur car is stock.

my engine blew last year. they put in a new engine, but it lasted 2 days. so my car was there for 5 months and they still couldn't fix it. they end up buy back the car.

the teardown authorization is just a procedure thing. most likely you never have to pay for it since u will be covered under warranty. make sure they give u a loaner vehicle when ur car is in the shop. loaner is still way better than rental.

good luck!

If you dig through the forum, there is a thread with all engine failure related / status of the case / locations / etc. from forum member.

Update:

I called to find out the status of my car and I was told that the car has not been teared down yet. Technicians are a little held back because they are rebuilding two engines from two different cars.

So I guess maybe tomorrow or Monday they will be done..

Update:

I called today to find out the status of my car. I gaved them 1 week today since I signed those authorization papers for them to tear down the engine. I found out from my Certified Service Consultant Who is assisting me with my car issue, he said that they need another week.... Now I am really pissed off. I have waited about 3 weeks today to start SOMETHING!!. I waited 2 weeks for a field technician, and the 3rd week (today) that they haven't even teared the engine down yet. WTF!

So Guess what I did? I called up Toyota Headquarters Spoke to a kindly women who helped me create a case# and a Manager will call me back tomorrow to discuss what is going on.. Sigh

I am a really nice patient guy but C'mon 3 weeks and not 1 screw removed from my engine bay yet? smh!.. it's Ridiculous!

Update:

So this past week I had reached out to Toyota/Scion Headquarters and spoke to a woman by the name of Angelica who was very friendly and wanted to help out my case with my car. So her and her manager went down to Westchester Toyota to find out what is the deal with the car and why is it taking almost a month to start work?

So Anyways she reached out to me today and Received some great news. First my car is being repaired under manufacture warranty. (*_*) Second They got me a rental car. Third they will look into the Rust issues with my car and see if they can fix it. Lastly, they want monthly statements of paid monthly bills also how much in total I owe left so They can review it and see what they can do for me regarding not having a car for a month and see if they can help with credit on next month bill.

I am so happy! I even got my Insurance reimbursement towing $100 dollars back!

I can't wait to see my car back with a rebuild engine and no rust
