Keep us posted
Update Status: The technician did a diagnostic and found out it is the internal motor and is related to the pistons. He wanted me to know first before they called Toyota for authorization for either they rebuild or get a new engine and perhaps have one of the representatives from Toyota to actually come take a look before they give the technicians what to do next. I am covered under the 36K/36mo "bumper-to-bumper: warranty, and a 60K/60mo drivetrain warranty. I will not have to come out of pocket. Funny Thing I asked the technician to find out if they want to come to a agreement where they can upgrade the engine for a Turbo version like the same motor that is in the WRX STI model. Technician says "Uhhh... That's a good question.. No one has never asked me that before but let me ask them if it can be done...I Hope they do it!"

This technician sounded like he wanted to do this it would be a fun project he says. What he said is if I get a new engine I would have to probably pay for the Extended warranty to cover the new engine.. Who knows what toyota will do... Till then... I am waiting.

I wonder if I can call up my insurance and be like hey you think if you can help to chip in money to get me a new motor and I can pitch in and Toyota chips in for a different motor and I can pay for the warranty? hmmm

That last post was the dumbest shit I've heard in awhile. Now you likely made them think you beat the shit out of your car and or race it. And no there is zero chance they will put anything but the OEM engine in...

After this post im wondering if this is a troll thread?

If you're being serious, I wouldn't count your chickens... If Toyota finds something to blame you for you'll end up with a new engine courtesy of your own wallet.

All I'm asking is a upgrade engine... sheesh...People is so quick to judge ..There's no worry's in my end. I am already under warranty, completely stock. They told me that it's a good thing I did not do any modifications. I'm not like most people who when they buy a car they already putting putting aftermarket engine parts.

No harm in asking but they would never do it.

Sad to see yet another engine bites the dust!

Update Status: I went to toyota today to see the service manager. He tells me that they can't do anything until they have a Field Tech come to our location and see the motor. He is coming this Tuesday to look at someone elses car but mean time he is here I can have the field tech to look at your car. Field Tech will give authorization to Tear down the engine and see how much damage occured if it was abused or a factory defect. Then Get me a new engine.

I asked them to take before and after pictures when it gets tear down and new engine.

Since you had all the maintenance done there, why are they telling you they have to check to see if it was "abused"? What, spirited driving like a sports car should be and how they market it? My guess is they are going to try to find some excuse to not cover the repair.

Hope it all works out for your favor. Let us know.

exacly what I'm talking about. You are right. The service manager is on my side he said he will help me not come out of pocket for this.

Imagine if they call me and they say... Hey... We are willing to give you a new car... a Release Series 1.0 would you take it?

hell yeah!!

I'm not sure what physical finding in the motor would lead them to believe it was abused in such a way as to have a piston fail (holed piston from too lean a mixture due to fuel system failure?). I thought the computer kept track of over-revving, so the techs would know that already.

Short of redlining a stone cold engine or driving at 7000 rpm for 3 hours I'm not sure what "abuse" one could heap on an engine to make it fail and the computer not know.
