I can think of a thing you could do with your left foot which could potentially take tenths off lap times...

These rumours about it being 330 hp seem pretty dumb. Why would they go through all that trouble of joint venture with bmw to just throw a 330hp engine from a 340i in there. Even the current gen Z4 has 335hp.

Honestly when I drove a formula 440 (CVT drive) with no clutch and left-foot-only braking at Road Atlanta, I can say that it never once occurred to me that I needed something to occupy my left foot down the straights... I suppose I did nothing with my left foot on the straights, but that did not diminish the experience in the slightest.

I figured. Was being a bit tongue-in-cheek.
Track driving is fun driving no matter what transmission you have.

Exactly!

I bet that was fun in the 440! Must be akin to go-karting at RA!
What kind of lap times can you get from those at RA?

RA is my second favorite track, behind Barber Motorsports in Birmingham.

I drove a Gallarado, Aston Martin and Ferrari F430. All were autos. The Ferrari had a dual clutch so shifts were better n smoother but I hated all the autos. Missed a stick n clutch. Hated the auto rev matching. Hated the stop to first gear engagement. Hated just clicking buttons on a wheel. I would never buy a sports car without a stick. It is hard enough buying an SUV without one.

The FR-S shifts very fast with paddles!

This for some reason reminded me of guys who modz in games like mw2 that I played back in the day. Like yea they won because they cheated but where was the personal challenge?

The way I see it, I'm not a professional, so I'm only pushing myself to be a better driver. I'm not trying to beat others. The stick maximizes my enjoyment and provides more ways for me to better my driving skills. Paddle, shifting autos are like modz for driving--less driver, more computer.

There are plenty of decreasing radius turns that require downshifts and increasing radius sweepers that require upshifts. Well, they do if you want to be fast.

Its fine for you to prefer stick but the object in real-life racing is to be the fastest and complete laps or runs in the shortest time. Try trail braking or shifting in turns in a MT.

Driving a MT is no mystery or difficult task - I've done it over 50 years, and with a lot tougher transmissions and clutches than those of today.
Why, driving one of those tough old trannies would give you even more chances to "better your driving skills"!! Ditch the power steering, synchromesh shifting, power brakes (go back to drum brakes!). Shoot - you don't even need that windshield! That's all cheating, you know? Where is your personal challenge??

Just putting this in perspective, no offense intended. Times change and pretty soon we will all be "cheating" because manual transmissions will disappear in a few years!
