Wait, sorry if I'm just having a massive brainfart but isn't it hard to balance a single rotor?

A single rotor certainly isn't as naturally balanced as a multi-rotor, but it's nothing that can't be solved with a counterweight and possibly a balance shaft. In the case of a "range extender" that counterweight could very easily be integrated into the flywheel / field magnets.

Hmmm the center of the rotor travels in a circular path due to the fixed center gear thing, but it doesn't have uniform velocity does it? If it does then a counterweight can fully balance it :O

I'm certainly not a rotary expert, but I'm fairly sure it does.

Yea actually upon second thought, it should since the crank journal spins uniformly with it. So it can be "perfectly balanced" with a counterweight.

A 1L direct injected single rotor would be interesting...

Don't forget the laser ignition!

Silly Mazda...

Have you ever heard a Ferrari at parking lot speeds? Aside from the fact it sounds great, there is a lot of RPM and clutch slippage going on. Kinda interesting to me that characteristics that are acceptable in an exotic, or rocket bike are deemed bad in a moderately priced sports car.
People put up with all sorts of shit when it comes to exotics. Doesn't mean it would be desirable to have in a daily driver beater car.

Just imagine if your daily driver had the rear visibility of an Exige S, the reliability of a Ferrari, and the MPG of a Lamborghini. Great car?

When I think about it, all I come up with is that they no longer have a car to put it in. they are still making rotaries

I'm pretty sure they stopped making the 13b though.

Just rumors that research is continuing, maybe a hybrid, maybe hydrogen power, maybe... maybe...

But I think the rotary as we knew and (some) loved is gone forever now.

There's my baby! LOVE this engine

I've watched that before, and I STILL can't quite figure out how it all works. So many spinning things, and at different rates, and... I'm just really happy it all works so well, lol.

Three moving parts!
