That's not what I said, but yes, the Evo is definitely comparable to supercars by virtue of the driving experience it lends to all drivers, even moderately skilled ones.

I guess everyone's definitions vary. A hotted up econobox that can hang with supercars, a supercar does not make it.

TIL: Super car is defined by a 4 cylinder AWD turbo car based on an econobox 4 door Lancer. Why do all the other companies waste time and money making super cars from scratch when they could just grab an econobox and throw a turbo and AWD on it?

If you think the only thing that differentiates a Evo from a 'regular' Lancer is a turbo and AWD, you're really missing the big picture. No amount of explaining to you will let you see how special Evo's are.

I think you are the one missing the big picture. The Evo is not a super car.

I just find it hilarious with the insults I see on here regarding other makes and models of vehicles. The FR-S/BRZ's a budget sports car at the end of the day. If one's argument is car XYZ is a 'econobox' hopped up, then what does that same person think about a sub $25K car? Maybe you're not seeing the same thing as me but when I see the Evo X, I see a very well engineered vehicle that'll do just about anything most sports cars can and more. Every bit of that car is thought out and designed to function. I don't see fake vents on the Evo X like I do on the FR-S/BRZ. Every bit of aesthetic on the X is designed to work. If you think Mitsu engineers' priorities were to develop a econobox first and foremost...you couldn't be more wrong. The basis of the Lancer was developed with the next Evo in mind which happened to be the X. Here's a tidbit you might not know. The X was designed with the dual clutch auto in mind, not the manual. You'll see it however you want to see it. And that is just fine...after all, it's just an opinion. But with what you said regards to the Z06 maybe being considered a supercar...isn't the base Vette which it's based off of not in the catergory of a supercar. After all, it's just a hopped up Vette. Yes, it's capable of running with the $250k++ crowd but does it really warrant to be mentioned in the same sentence as those true supercars when the base car starts at $50K? You see where I'm getting at? I respect your opinion and wouldn't want you to see it any other way. I'm not hear to change anyone's mind but I will inform if something isn't true. |

Riiiiiiiiight. Yet, you undermine the Evo as an econobox when there are just as many changes from the base Lancer to an Evo. I don't get the double standard. Again, I'm not calling the Evo a super car but I don't think the Z06 is considered a super car in my opinion. It has super car like performance but definitely not a super car. When I think of super cars, I think of cars like the Aventador, F458, Carrera GT, S7, MP4-12C, etc. If we're talking strictly on choosing what a super car should be based on performance numbers, yeah, Z06 is a super car. Evo isn't. But I wouldn't go off on a tangent on calling the Evo unworthy because it's based off an econobox. |

I should make licence plate holders for EVO owners:
I'd rather be driving a supercar... ...oops, I already am! |

I never said the Evo is an econobox. With the fact that you can option one out over $40k it is anything but economical. I said it is based off a 4 door econobox, which it is. The Corvette is built as a pure sports car and when you add the features of the ZR1 and Z06 you get into super car territory. Please name the changes from the base Lancer to an Evo that rival changing the material of the frame and engine cradle.

Lancer = 148hp 4dr econobox ($15,995)
Corvette = 430hp 2dr purpose-built sports car ($49,600) I'd imagine the latter is much closer to being a supercar than the former.
