I sold my clean 240sx and got an FRS a few months later. I do miss the 240sx a lot because of the ease of tuning and variety of parts, but nothing beats a new car. You can't compare a brand new car like the FRS to a used 20+ year old car. I also think $20k for a skyline is a ripoff. That shit sells for like $3k in japan. You will be more well respected driving a new car vs driving a "kid's dream" car.

+1 on the r34 though haha

R32 GTS-T's don't have the R230, do they? If it's the R200 that means the rear diff is also the same level of durability, although there's possibly more/cheaper ratios available for the toyota 8" in the JZX81. factory clutch-type LSD instead of viscous. nicer interior. massive trunk. 1.5jz rebuild potential with cheap USDM 2jz-ge blocks. the front suspension is functionally equivalent but toyota used a knuckle integrated into the strut housing, which means roll center is adjustable with RCA's easily and replacement steering arms are easily fabricated.
You might want to figure out what is actually a BNR32.

You are right, no one in their right mind should have it as the only car.
Which is why I said people need to know how much it really costs to own one, scraping to buy on finance is about as dumb as it gets. This actually applies to all cars actually, just more so for the special/desirable ones.

he said he's considering GTS-T as well as GTR R32's. I already said the GTR is faster but I'd still rather have a cresta, mostly because RWD. versus a GTS-T, JZX81 is better hands down.

Forget the rwd skyline. Might as well go for Nissan's other variants like the 240sx, 300zxtt, or 350z if you want rwd. Quite frankly, it ain't a skyline in my eyes if it doesn't have an rb26dett and awd.

It's also been documented that you're gonna want to stay away from earlier R32 gtr's from years 89-92.5. Something about the crankshaft oil pump collar not having enough surface area and potentially wearing out.

On top of that, do you seriously want a 25 year-old sportscar that has been beat to hell and back with little to no parts availability? Not knocking the R32. It's a bad ass car. Simply put, it would be strictly be a never ending project car and bank on it being out of commission while you're waiting weeks on end for parts to ship. Expensive parts!

R34 gtr's are eligable for import to Canada now too. Too bad I'm not ballin' enough to buy one because they're pretty much every JDM fan boy's wet dream. Even used, I think they're still pushing $45k. That would be the one and only skyline I'd go for. Keep it close to stock and pray for nothing to ever break haha.

r32s are my favorite of the gtr family , but honestly I'd consider a gd sti or evo 8/9 over one due to part availability , age , miles, etc....

I've said it once and I'll say it again. Beware of RHD. If spies are following you from behind while you make a slow left-hand turn, you will not be able to roll out of the car undetected. LHD FTW!

Yeah, the GTST is so sh*t that I didn't even consider it. No one in their right mind would pay 20k for one either.
Somehow it seems relevant to you since the JZX81 is better than the GTS-T.

As for your love for JZX81, why bother since it is even cheaper with a cressida under your criteria.

Because OP is dreaming anyway and paying an importer for a JZX81 is easier than JZ swapping an MX83 since the forums don't hold your hand for you.

You're right though, JZ swapping a cressida is probably a far more practical option because you'll be able to pass on single-lane roads, go through drive-thrus, and insure the damn thing. It doesn't have the allure of something omgjdm though, if you want that you have to import a markii/cresta/chaser. And those look cooler too.

The chance of that is near 0 in the states for the next 10 years.

And after those 10 years, when you finally get your r34, you will still end up with a 25 year old nissan with a plethora of problems and near 0 part availability.

Thank you government, and thank you Mercedes Benz North America for the 25 year old import rule.

I'm pretty sure the R34 will live on past 25 years with more then enough parts being available, look at all the 89 240s on the street, parts for them are easy to come by sure prices will be a lot more but you got to pay to play.

I would argue that the reason for the current availability of 240 parts is that it was (unlike the r34) a us-market car in the first place.

Very true. Not to mention anything involving a drive in (fast food, banks, liquor stores, gate guards, etc) is a pain in the ass.
