SEIBON Hood/Trunk Install/Review: Get Educated With FACTS!

Anyone with that carbon CSL trunk on a black car? i want to see how it looks. Debating on getting that or just getting a wing. Pure aesthetics.... no weight savings.

The people surprised by the weight of the carbon fiber; there's two types. Wet and dry. Most people buying car parts can buy wet carbon fiber parts.

Those who want to actually save weight get dry carbon fiber at 5x the cost and 40% less weight.

OP, I love that trunk, I think it should be an OEM option.

The whole reason for this post is for people like you.

What is inferior about these products? And inferior to what standard? You would like to compare an OEM mass produced stamped aluminum part to a hand laid or vacuum formed carbon piece?

This post is to let people decide for themselves when presented with factual information. Pictures, weights, fitment comparison. Please let me know how that is damage control. Nothing is hidden. My parts arrived today at 10:45am EST. After installing and enjoying them I posted my review.

I bought a Seibon VS hood based on a friends car that also had the exact model hood. I have a turbo so I bought this hood to vent the heat build up. My friends hood was as solid as a tank. It was built in 2012.
The hood I got 2 months ago looks great BUT it is as flimsy as a potato chip. The first time I got to 75mph the hood looked like it would tear itself apart. It was lifting up at the windshield near the hinges.
It is really unnerving. It also really pisses me off. $900 hood. $850 for painting. No Bueno. FLIMSY HOOD. AVOID.

Upon inspection the older hood has a significant amount of fiberglass laid through the underside, hence it was 6lbs heavier than stock. I'm going to have to take mine to a body shop who works on Corvettes and have them install the same amount of fiberglass on the underside.

I'm sure someone in the brain trust at Seibon thought it would save weight ( and money) to forgo the fiberglass, but the result is an unsafe, unusable POS.

My Seibon VS hood is WAAAAAYYYYYY flimsier than stock. It has as much stiffness as a lampshade. At 75mph it does a little dance. At 85mph it looks like it's going to tear itself off the hinges.

I don't know about any changes in quality, but I have a Siebon hood on my car that has been 130+mph at Willow springs with no issues. (on the stock hood hinges and latch, no hood pins.)

I think if i was going to spend a lot of time at big speeds I would put a set of aerocatch latches on, but I tend to go to smaller tracks where the speeds aren't so great. (buttonwillow or streets)

Mine fit pretty well, too. I do some work at a shop where they do a bunch of Ferrari work, and they were all amazed at the fit/cost ratio.
