Sure you can get the back out with almost any tire on this car but you have to be either pushing a corner really hard or purposely trying to get it sideways by exaggerating steering input. Point is, when you ditch the primacy's and go with most HP tires, the car doesn't have enough power for that "rear end twitch" as you're coming out of a corner and that is something that is really missed. Sad to say, but I think its a choice: do you want good corner grip or do you want playfulness out of the rear end? Its hard to get both on a 200 hp car. I'm kinda dealing with the same thing as you but don't want to give up the grip that comes with HP tires. Oh and I would never buy shit Chinese tires. They will be good from the start and after 10k miles it will sound like you are riding on cinder blocks and you will have less grip then a MPSS in the wet.

Or you could just do as others on here imply and put on super sports and drive as fast as you can around a corner to obtain the playfulness; you'll lose the rear eventually....

When I had some Walmart branded tire on the car (bought it like that), the tail would slide under any fast cornering. But the sketchiest thing was rain puddles. It was impossible to drive straight.

The Michelin pilot sport as 3+ are overkill in grip. That's what I have and I cannot get the tail to slip with nannies on.

"impossible to drive straight" - i'd also check alignment. Having it well evened out side to side with slight toe-in should ease a lot tracking straight even in low grip/with overcame traction. If it worked for me easing handling on ice/snow in winter, should work for wet/rain.

I think this may be the best answer. At 200hp I prob just have to choose.
If I must, then I choose grip because it makes driving hard in sketchy canyons less scary.

Thanks for all the suggestions as well.

Or just drive appropriately for the conditions.

Need more throttle and a sharper steering angle! I could still make my FR-S oversteer with AS3+. MPS4s is a different situation though

Lol
This thread has been pretty funny so far

Got my car stock with indy 500s.
Left all aids on. Car would slide out under a moderately hard turn, or quick shifting into 2nd around a bend.

UEL header, stage2 OFT, and Eibach rear sway bar and the back end is "on ice skates" as someone else said.
Definitely wasn't expecting it to break loose so easily first time I drove it after the sway bar

I heckin whipped mine and the light still didn't come on . I think I might've had like 30-35 psi back then.

I run 35-40 psi now and there's 1 or 2 freeway change ramps that will make my light turn on if I take the wrong line at like 70+. The wheel wobbles a little but it's not gonna slip if I'm not being stupid bout it lol.

I miss my Walmart tires when I first bought the car. Accidentally lost the rear quite a few times

if the stock tires scare you learn their limits and learn how to go past them. They are awesomely predictable and you can overdrive them without worrying about spinning or crashing.

Being able to know exactly what the stock tires will give you and what their limits are will make you a better driver.

i dont know what tires you have but that seems way too high. the chart starts on page 13 of this link https://www.toyotires.com/media/2125...s_20170203.pdf for example i have 255/40/17 and to get aproximately the same load rating as a stock setup i need to have about 25psi in my indys cold. if you are putting 40lbs cold into a stock size or a larger size your contact patch is going to be all jacked up

It totally depends on the tire and how strong the sidewall is. I have general snow tires with very weak sidewalls. About 40 psi strengthens the sidewalls enough that you have some confidence in the handling. Lower and they feel squishy and awful.

I bet this is the same in many tires that have weaker sidewalls.
