In this thread I've read five comments about the visibility. It's time I repost something that perhaps the newer members haven't read.

If you see the car that directly behind you in all three of your mirrors you're doing it all wrong. You need to "fan out" your side view mirrors. If you're on a multi-lane road and you're in the center lane your mirrors should be adjusted so that the car passing you on the left will still be partially visible in your rear view mirror when he comes into view of your left side view mirror. He should still be partially visible in your left side view mirror as he comes into your peripheral vision on your left side. A head check might still be a good idea. The same rule would apply to your right side.

I know this will seem strange to people who have had their side view mirrors tucked in all the years they've been driving but do it for just a short while and you'll find there are no blind spots. You will wonder why you never thought of it yourself.

Yep, setting your mirrors right makes a world of difference, especially in this car.

Car is an awesome daily driver. I got the auto because I live in cali, after 6 months traded it in for a manual and now its even funner during daily driving.

Only thing I really notice is this car does tell you where the bumps on the road are - on rough roads its not the greatest ride. But coming from a 2001 ford escort (that thing rattled like a geo metro at freeway speeds...) driving in this is like a luxury car lol.

Just don't expect super soft cushiony suspension and I'm sure it'll be a great daily driver for you.

EDIT: and people are crazy talking about the visibility! This car has the best visibility of any car I've driven in! I remember coming from test driving a Camaro SS to the fr-s felt like getting a new set of eyes

Spot on. for sideview mirros, you should not be able to see you rear end in it. There is no need as it just limits the rest of the road thats visable. Properly adjusted mirrors and you should never even have to turn your head theoretically, but always better safe than sorry

I came from a BMW 325ci with the sport package so the ride on the FRS wasn't much different. The biggest change in ride for me had more to do with the FRS being nearly 1000lbs lighter than the bimmer.

Visibility is better than most sports cars and dramatically better than the Camaro, Mustang or Challenger which were other cars that I was considering when I bought mine.

Biggest issue with the FRS is other drivers not seeing you! The car is low and small.

I also drive mine everyday and I love the gas mileage, comfort (for a car its size) and just the pleasure of being behind the wheel of it.

All the awards the 86 has won over the last 6 months counts for something!

Scott

First thing I noticed was the giant driver side blind spot when I shoulder check due to the location of the door piller. I was able to get around it by positioning the driver side mirror extra wide so the vehicle in the adjacent lane is visible until it is next to my window(or you can get those round blind spot mirrors). Also I find the initial 1/4" of the throttle to be extremely sensitive, I really have to twinkle toe it in 1st gear without jerking the car or spin tires. Just some minor annoyances for daily driving, overall this is my first sports car and I love it.

Passenger and rear visibility is great! Just driver side is kind of iffy... I also drive mostly in the city with terrible rush hour traffic, so the sensitive throttle sometimes gets me pretty annoyed on a bad day.

Thanks for this thread. I am in DC with the crappiest roads on earth. This is the only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger. That and April 15th.

Preach on, preach on @whaap! Being a 5'2" female, adjusting the seat to the highest adjustment, and still this car has some gnarly blind spots. Having your mirrors adjusted is absolutely key in not only being a better driver, but a safer driver. I haven't had too many close calls since I've learned to adjust my mirrors correctly, but it has saved me in the rare occasions when you just don't have time to do the old swing-your-head-from-side-to-side maneuver to make sure you have room to move away from an object or another car while moving at highway speeds. Takes a bit of getting used to at first, but I will say after setting my mirrors this way for the last 5 years, I can't imagine not driving with my mirrors this way ever again!

Fixed it for ya!

Seriously, I think FR-S stands for "f#$%ing rotten seats", but after spending some time and effort on lumbar support, they are "okay". I can drive cross country in some of my other cars that are equipped with Recaro sport seats and feel fresh as a daisy, these... not so much.

The rest of the car is fine, the blind spots are manageable (and +1 on the mirror adjustment suggestion) and I don't have any issue with it over rough roads, it seems to respond well to them, but my previous DD to this was a 2011 MCS so the comparison my be a bit slanted.

6' tall 200lbs here.

What OEM armrest?

Agreed... but testimonials from people who own and drive these cars everyday... is more valuable than all the magazine reviews I have read .. Most are journalists who take a quick joy ride in someone else's car and then get paid to write up something..
Getting valuable real world info here from everyone.. Thank you !

Got the Car June 1st and have 14,000 miles on it. Just a fun car in general. If you fit in the seats you will love them.

A few things that at times bother me:
-Radio is subpar regardless of which version you get. The subs are on the door which cause a lot of rattle, the bluetooth is reasonable, but does have issues if you have to turn off/on your car at times.

-Car is really low sooooo if you have a bad back or legs watch out :p

-Depending where you live, people haven't seen this car around much and like to stare. Watch out for them getting close to you, swerving into your lane, or watching you pick your nose :p

-I hattttttttttteeeeeeee the automated windows... in the winter I just kept waiting/cringing everytime I opened my door and watched the window roll down.. Just waiting on the day it shatters lol

-Lots of rattling in and out of the car

-Having to deal with toyota/scion dealers for any maintenance.. It's a hassle when they don't have parts for your car.. but this is obviously dependent on where you get your car

Things Ive loved:
-Love being apart of a "small" community. You do not see the FRS or BRZ every 5 min unlike many cars out there.

-Great gas mileage, even when driving with excess "spirit"

-Handling.. don't think I have to go into this much more.

-Looks are obviously subjective, but I think this car is so damn sharp looking

-Price.. though this could obviously have been better, there are very few cars that can put a smile on your face like this one can for under 26k

-Pretty much everything else...

If you can keep your payments reasonable... I think you cannot go wrong with this car for the time being. It also doesn't seem like "many" changes will be made in the next year model.

Good luck!
