Greddy Magnetic Oil Drain Plug or Fumoto Drain Valve?
I'm trying to spend an extra $20 to get free shipping from FT86 Speed Factory and the Greddy Drain Plug would work, but I've always been intrigued but the Fumoto Drain Valve (which they don't sell). The Greddy Magnetic Plug is more functional, but I've always hated loosening drain plugs during oil changes...

Just installed the Fumoto this weekend. Seems like a quality piece, and people have been using them for a while now. No leaks. I will miss the magnet, but maybe every few oil changes, I'll throw a plug with a magnetic pickup on it...

+1 for the fumoto valve. no more oily hands after switching. get the hose as well for an even faster cleanup cause you can directly drain to your bottles now too.

Welp, I went with the GReddy plug. I'm not too lazy to turn one bolt once every 6 months or so.

This is a really old post, but I just now had an epiphany. I am more of a computer geek than a real gear head so please excuse my nerdyness. I personally wouldn't want to exchange function for the ease of changing my oil. I do however believe in finding a way
The idea I had was to insert a magnet around the drain plug. If you have an old hard drive laying around, this should work perfectly and would be about the same strength I would think. A hard drive has 2 magnets attached to a metal piece in the shape of about a half circle so you could surround the valve. I'd leave the metal on but you can take it off I suppose. Might make it harder to remove though. I'd throw a little grease on it to prevent corrosion too. The metal should get stuck to the bottom of the pan and should be removed when you drain the oil (provided you removed the magnets). I'm sure that there are other magnets that would serve the purpose, but this is the first thing that I thought of when looking for a roundish magnet to surround the valve. Any thoughts about this or do you see any problems with this setup?? |

A similar idea is already being produced. Look into a product called filtermag.
