wrx vs frz
i think they're entirely different cars for different sets of needs. apart from being "fun" and having a boxer engine there isn't a whole lot in common between the two. comparing the two is like comparing a sausage to a meatball. do you prefer sausage or meatball? |

Do you have to drive uphill when it's snowy/icy? If yes, I'd get the new WRX, and I'd get it with CVT, which has better AWD system.

You mean the one tested by motortrend? They tested the fully loaded model, so there's extra weight from things like the moonroof and the audio system. There's probably more weight coming from new safety crap and the 6 speed. All of that adds up.

Does anyone else feel like this is a Legacy? Granted, I have always liked the Legacy but the whole point to the WRX/STi was the rawness/ speed/ etc. Yea, it is quick and handles well but I can't help be bored by it. It just seems everything special has been taken from it. It nearly seems like I am watching a review of an Altima or (insert whatever sedan here).
Perfect example, I had a 2005 WRX and a 2011 WRX. The 2011 WRX was faster, handled better (stock v stock), etc. But I sold it because it was trending towards being boring. It just didn't have the essence of the older model cars. I appreciate Subaru's attempt to make things nicer, especially in the interior but I don't know, it just isn't working for me. And I don't even dislike the looks THAT much, I think it looks decent. It is that X factor that was so special about owning a WRX/ STi that seems to me to be gone. And unfortunately to me, that is the most important part. Who knows though, maybe I'm just crazy |

Thoughts: that's what the WRX should have been from the start. Sad it's still heavy-ish. Doesn't appeal to me looks wise, which is funny considering everything else is what we essentially asked for as enthusiasts. I just can't get over the looks enough to want to NOT have a BRZ.

I'm torn. I've always liked the WRX. I like the idea of focusing on a more dialed in suspension, but I really dislike the way the new car looks. I've always liked the look of the hatchback more and the death of the hatch makes me very sad. That said, improvements in the interior are always welcomed. I just hope the next time I'm purchasing a car (~5 years) there'll be a new version of the WRX out as I'll probably be ready to get back into a more practical car (recently got engaged and who knows if kids might pop out...).
EDIT: The car actually looks pretty nice from the side profile in red. |

Yet I'd buy any Kia over a Honda. Styling-wise. The Optima is a strikingly beautiful looking car. Hondas look like they're being designed by 90's car designers desperately trying (and failing) to follow current design trends.

Sure, I know. But the latest generation Impreza (on which it is based) lost several hundred pounds. The WRX is still greatly based on it. Thus there should be some weight loss.
