Does ecutek custom tune gain more power over OFT on the same aftermarket header?

I’ve been hearing OTF’s cookie cutter approach can’t maximize the header’s ability. A custom tune with ecutek would most likely extract more power with the same header. Is this true?

To get the absolute most out of an OFT you'd have to do a custom tune, but the off the shelf tunes should make within a few hp of a good ecutek tune. If you are after every last HP then you'll need a custom tune.

I remember seeing in a thread here somewhere that a custom tune even on e85 over an off the shelf OFT tune still only provided like an additional 3hp.

Custom tune made by a guy who knows what he does will always provide better results, ots are good as a base but still improvable

But about the op question, if one knows where put hands to, oft and ecutek are the same performance-wise on NA cars

The easy answer.... Both are capable of the same results. People that bash OFT are just ignorant. It works fine and has proven results. Some people think off the shelf tunes aren't as good, they aren't wrong, but an off the shelf tune will be 98% as good.

Its possible to pick up some gains if your car is say runnig to rich or too lean. Or your using a vastly differnt header to what the oft tunes were developed on like an ace or p-tuning header.

You can check it your fueling\maf scaling and correct that yourself. But to optimise cam timings for a different header you will need some dyno time and a copmetent tuner.

Their will be a benifit in custom tuning woth opemsource or ecutek but the gains may not be big . Depends on your header and if the fueling\maf scaling needed adjustment

Basically if your intake is stock and you have no exhaust leaks near the o2 sensors your maf scaling should be fine, and the tunes should be close enough.
