Same here, regardless of what I'm driving.

I usually try to park next to expensive cars like BMW's, Mercedes', etc. It gives me less stress about worrying about someone "accidentally" damaging my car. I made a mistake of parking next to a shitty Buick Skylark in my tC and that person left a 3 foot scrape along my driver quarter panel backing out...

Argh! I feel your pain. back when in 2002 when I got my gorgeous WRX (Sedona Red Pearl), 2 weeks after buying, some bastard slammed their door into my front passenger door, caving it in and gouging the paint! It was in the body shop at about 300 miles!! Then about 4 months later, some guy takes my parking space the apartment complex I was living, so I had to use the visitor parking. I come back to check on the car and someone scraped against the drived side rear wheel and bumper as they drove out of the space next to mine. That car was cursed and I started getting grey hairs! Back to the body shop.

Afterwards, it was incident free, but i always parked away from others, with only one other car next to me if possible. I used to always use a car cover on my previous custom painted car. But after a while it gets exhausting. You can only do so much, ultimately it is just a machine that will wear and get some damage. This is of course 41 year old me speaking, not my more obsessive, younger self.

Oh you have no idea. I found a pickup truck parked IN my rear bumper... of my GTR! ... Let's just say I made sure they didn't go anywhere the next day... or have a license plate...

If there are no open areas to park in, I'll do the same thing. Or find a parking spot with a LOT of room on either side, so if they carelessly open their doors it's less likely to hit mine. Of course they could leave minutes after you park and some other ass can park close.

The majority of people who own cars sadly just don't care. I always find people who just open their door into my car without a care in the world....
I have more respect of other peoples' cars than my own.

This would be one of my biggest concerns after getting an FRS/BRZ. There will always be people out there who can't stand when other people have something nicer than them. I would expect the car to be keyed within the first month.

Since I saw my thread was still getting a few hits I have further updates... The reason I had parked in the spot where my car was "marked" was due to a resturant blocking off spots in the public parking lot... One of those spots is where I normally parked and the other was where a friend in his Imprezza parks. We chose those spots as we can protect our cars due to the angle they create, and since we know each other we will park so that we can guard one another further...

My friend called and complained to the parking company about the issue with the blocked spots and we were told the resturant should not be doing that. Well, this morning the resturant had the spots blocked off again. Needless to say we now appear to have "reserved" spots because we're going to start moving the barrels blocking the spots and return to parking in those spots.

People are absolute, total morons. I once parked my MR2 in the LAST parking spot in my college's lot, literally 1/2 mile away from campus, and walked. There were literally over a thousand spots closer to campus. Some dingus parked his POS Buick next to my MR2, opened the door into it and shattered the fiberglass side vent. The best part was, I called my insurance company to report it, and they found out that the owner of the Buick was insured through them also; they called him and he denied the whole f***in' thing.

And just the other day, I parked my $53K Audi in the back of the grocery store parking lot, and low and behold some clown in an Altima parks his car right next to mine. Hundreds of other spaces in the lot. I'm like "are you f***in' for real, dude???" It literally defies all logic for someone to do that.

I'm gonna start laying these down next to my car when I park:

(They're for sale on Craigslist for $550 LOL)
