CAN Reverse Engineering Tool

For anyone out there who has wanted to swap one of these cars, they know one of the bigger hurdles are the CAN integration of different engine controllers.

I've worked to find a lot of data to get a product out there that does the basics, but there are lots more things to be discovered. A self driving company has been releasing tools to aid in reverse engineering of CAN traffic from manufacturers. Their latest is Cabana. It allows you to easily identify data and graph it vs a video log of the same data.

Check out the demo here:

http://community.comma.ai/cabana/?demo=1

If people in this community contributed with their cars, a lot more data could be found for these vehicles! Take a look and contribute

Cool stuff. Cant seem to get that demo to work though. Need to get this though.

So if we could trap all of the signals/commands for say AC control from the FRS and then the same from the swapped PCM,, in my case an E39 GM we'd be in good shape. Yes???

Yep, was just about to comment. Chrome and Edge work well, IE not so much. Keep in mind it is still beta.

@MRS-Colin would I be incorrect in thinking that once you've got everything mapped out for the FRS/BRZ, that's literally half the battle and thus going to any other ECU would just require mapping the other ECU.

What I'm getting at is, I know you're working with Vorshlag on the LS swap and have pretty much mapped everything out for that setup, could you then use what has already been learned from that and apply it to another engine ECU such as for the 2GR-FSE? With the only requirement to map out the 2GR-FSE side or do you have to start all over again?

100% correct. The nice thing about the LS is that I've worked with it on many other projects and I know just about every value needed.

I don't know much Toyota, but there is a good bit of information on other Toyota vehicles floating around the internet that gives me a head start.
