so originally i would have thought it was asinine to think more power could come to the 2nd gen but seeing how expensive the 4 cyl zupra starts in japan (nearly double the cost of an 86!) it seems like there is a big enough gap between the two for a more powerful 86 to exist at least in most major markets.

my prediction is that they are going to keep as much of the existing chassis, same wheelbase and so forth to keep development costs down (plus think we can all agree the chassis is nearly perfect), redesign the exterior/interior and spend the majority of the money on developing a 2nd hi-po engine that gets a turbo to finally shut all the power spoiled brats in the world up ^^
I almost hope it's another NA engine, maybe the rumored 2.4, just so I can enjoy the irritation those guys will feel that there's yet another "underpowered, slow" twin that "only got a 5hp bump".

well I'm still totally thinking a NA engine will remain but perhaps there could be a 2nd engine on offer - NA along with an optional FI one - I just don't see how Tada-san could make a business case to recreate the same exact car with just a slight bump in torque. I have a hard time believing going from a 2.0 to 2.4 4 cyl would really change much.. Look at the Z, going from the 3.5 VQ to the 3.7 didn't appreciably give it more HP or torque and that is with a 6 cyl..similarly, the S2K's displacement bump was just an incremental difference.

huh, what power? our twins have power, it is only low end torque that is "missing" for some people..

If it's AWD I won't be getting one.

If it's electric I won't be getting one.

If it's not manual I won't be getting one.

I'm pretty lucky, I've been burning fossil fuels doing mad skids for the last 40 years, adding turbos, engine swaps, trying to work out jet sizes, exhaust sizes and tuning solutions has been a blast.

It definitely is going to be an end of a era, I'm sure the mod scene will continue, what form, I would not have a clue, hopefully its not just cosmetic rubbish, EV motor swaps from EV F1 cars?

Hell, I've never actually driven a EV anyrhing.

LOL so now do people think they will see a concept car in October?
"Tokyo, Japan, September 27, 2019―Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) and Subaru Corporation (Subaru) agreed today on a new business and capital alliance with the aim of further developing and strengthening their long-term partnership."
Now, now let’s not get ahead of ourselves, are you sure it’s real?

Yeah agree they won’t merge, Subaru already has a strong brand following with their unique boxer, all wheel drive layout. Only car nerds care who owns who. Why upset the apple cart.

Yes. It is an actual Toyota press release not something based on what somebody said that they read form somebody else.
