I bought for fun. I didn't test drive other cars, but BRZ. Not sure why girls are not attracted to the car though.

It’s my third one. I just keep coming back to it . Had a mk6 Gti that I loved but when the frs came out I had to have it. So I enjoyed my 2013 frs AT for a two years. Then I traded that one in for a 10series MT because I decided I wanted to go turbo and manual. around that time the mk7 GTI was hitting the streets and it’s power numbers with just a tune and dp were impressive(12sec 1/4)! That led me to contemplate if it was worth spending $5k+ to turbo the frs. I stumbled upon a great deal on mk7 Gti and said fuck it. The mk7 Gti was a great car! Fast, practical, good looking but it lacked fun, character. I started tracking it and once you start pushing it fwd was no fun. The car did however keep up with much faster cars on straits with only 290lbft and 260whp. At this point I had sold my Miata so I was desperately missing rwd mt lightweight. There’s no other car in the market for under $18k WITH WARRANTY, that looks good, and is rwd. So I started hunting down a CPO twin. Found a 2014 brz with 60k miles CPO for $15000 which is rare. Usually cpo are much more expensive.

And here I am. I now drive like a grandma because I can’t put run anyone; much more relaxed driving unlike the Gti where I was always inclined to drag race any civic type r or STI and surprise them.

The twins are over priced above $22-24k. Anything below that, they are amazing fun cars!

Poor impulse control.

I had a 2012 WRX that I was trying to improve the handling of, and decided to test drive a BRZ to see the difference. A few hours later the dealer kept the WRX and I the BRZ.

Buy used. I bought mine 1 year old with about 5000 miles for 8 k off. Totally crazy. There are plenty of deals out there if you search.

I bought it because I wanted it. If Subaru didn't serve up a piece of garbage engine in the STI I might have bought one of those instead. I did look at the Mustang Ecoboost but I can't handle barely getting 20 mpg any more.

I wanted something light and tossable, new enough that it wasn't a deathtrap, and reliable-ish (so no third hand turbo cars). I had a budget of ~10k. I don't fit in an ND miata and the NC is too boring. And I was coming from an even slower 2.5RS, so the power was forgivable

I'd have settled for an 8th gen SI if one came along in great shape for the right price. But all the ones to come through the dealership were beat. Also would have pivoted to a G37 Coupe but a nice RWD Manual Coupe is rare as hell.

Given those parameters though, a twin was the only real answer.

Forgot to add btw, these cars don't have the modern Saaaaaaafety features like ASS (auto stop start), Blind spot, lane keep, etc.

Basically, last of the real old school cars, and I like it that way

I wanted something to replace my '78 280Z, but with rear seats. Nothing else fit the bill at that time.

I chose the twins twice because I loved the handling and race car seating position. I also loved the styling, size, weight and price of the vehicle (if purchased used). However, as I gained more experience with other vehicles throughout the years, my view on the twins has changed and I've come to realize that there are other vehicles out there that offer a better balance of performance and handling. It really just comes down to your priorities.

If you have the slightest thought about power when looking for your next vehicle, I would advise you to stay far far away from the twins. The power band is not for everyone and you have to be okay with downshifting a lot due to the infamous dip in torque. If you don't mind the added size and weight, I would take a look at the Mustang or Camaro first before the twins. Also, I wouldn't spend more than 22K-24K for one.

I know I am going to get some hate for this remark, but, the twins really shine if your driving it hard on some back roads. If you are doing anything else, any other vehicle that has been mentioned in automotive journalism for being a fun to drive vehicle, will be just as good. It is a great vehicle if your using it as a weekend toy. If you are doing more than that, then it just becomes average.

Because I want a Miata... but need rear seats.

Because this car is way more fun than my former EVO8 MR.

Because I had two AE86 before... it's a natural succession.

Because I can't afford a GT350.

This car is the best blend of practicality and fun while being an FR w/ LSD, no frills sports car for just under 30K. There really isn't a better choice out there if you're looking for a compact sports car that can be more than a weekend toy.

Girls won't be attracted to a Subaru. It's a Subaru, the family car brand. It would be like trying to attract a girl with a Hyundai.

Come to the Toyota side and there are some similarities, although, my car has garnished a lot of attention from both sexes. I think it depends on colour and choice of cosmetic mods as well.

My car being black, almost always clean, having the new (better, best, most aggressive) front end, black wheels and dark tint, makes it out to be much more "luxury" looking than it actually is, especially at night.

Swagger is what matters.

This was my major checklist:
-Modern and reliable car
-NA engine (DI + PI was a bonus)
-Connected feeling when driving
-Manual with little to no rev-hang, or close-gear ratio box (had both of these)
-Within my budget (25k CAD); bought 2018 demo for 24k @ 0.5% AIR
-Could fit 4 tires in trunk/cabin
-Could survive in the winter (including the horrendous potholes we get in the spring)

I did want 4 doors but that unicorn of a car doesn't exist... So I bought a BRZ.

You're forgetting about the winter. The average car in the winter is not a dorifto god machine.
