Oil filter punctured wrap, does it matter?

Purchased an OEM Subaru filter for the BRZ online...came in a sealed carton but the plastic wrap of the actual filter itself has a puncture. Not sure how this is possible as it's been sitting in a sealed box. Will the puncture affect the performance of the filter? I've read something about moisture making filters go bad and the point of a (sealed) wrap is to keep moisture out. Am I over thinking it?

Please let me know what you were reading (website/forum/publication) so I can avoid reading that in the future.
Thanks.

(the wrap is there because there's a tiny bit of lube on the rubber gasket. it's there so that the lube stays and doesn't stain the packaging)

Right. Almost every other oil filter sold in the last 50 years has no similar seal.

Be careful. I hear that if you combine an oil filter with punctured packaging and a clock that has the colon blinking catastrophic failure will occur immediately.

The filter is a preventative device if particulate in the oil exceeds tolerances.

Similarly, a condom is a preventative device, also wrapped to ensure it's effectiveness.

That said, I would NEVER use a condom that was in a opened packet. TOSS IT!

...joking!

Most off the shelf oil filters don't come plastic wrapped in the carton. if you don't believe me go to any walmart and start opening up oil filters.

tl;dr you're fine.

Someplace in here there is a thread where a guy changed his own oil for the first time ever and left the plastic on the filter. He may have been thinking the same way.
