Is it at all possible to make this car convertible? Has it been done?

Hi, is it at all possible to make this car convertible or targa type style? Has this ever been done before? I don't care how much it would cost or where I would have to take the vehicle to make this happen I want a convertible car so bad! Is this viable or would it hurt the structure of the car? Also any shops recommended in the US who may take on this kind of a job??

For enough money anything can be done.

Please just buy a convertible. It'll work better and likely be cheaper. Cutting the top off a hard top car removes a major structural component from the car and makes it very flimsy. Plus, a Miata or S2000 is designed to be safe in a rollover. A roofless BRZ is not.

When they make targas or convertibles they add bracing so the flimsy part is dealt with. Still can be a death trap in a roll over though. My lowball guess at cost is around $30K so you need deep pockets if you really want that top off. Read the OP's other threads for an interesting take on modding without even a basic consideration or understanding of the impact on the car.

I owned a targa Supra. Sold it n later bought a rarer n lighter hardtop. Much happier. Targa had extra weight from reinforced panels but it still flexed with the top off in corners. Frankly, convertables suck. They get dirty so fast if you leave them toppless when parked and the tops tear n even the targas can leak. I have a motorcycle for the open air effect. What's the appeal? Why the BRZ? Why not just add an aftermarket sunroof?

Maybe just get a sunroof installed? A fraction the price of a convertible/targa conversion.
Edit: Doh, Irace86 beat me by a couple seconds. Great minds think alike! I am also thinking of making a cannon that
shoot fireballs on the roof and putting a Slurpee machine inside. Were you thinking the same also?

Yep. This is the case of "anything is possible with enough money"

But like other have said itll cost way too much and you lose structural integrity so dont do it. Go buy a Miata and keep the FRS still

The only concern I have is the safety,

How is this with a sunroof? I would be happy with a sunroof!

With the design of the roof on these I don't know how a sunroof would even go in. There is just too much of a difference in the two levels.
Be a pretty tiny sunroof to fit in the flat space.

The car you're looking for is the 2016 Miata RF.

Looks wrong. Never appreciated or gone for sunroofs! Just losing that much steel will compromise the structural strength and on top you're adding weight.
