Speaking of doing something different, no other mfgs are producing a RWD hot hatch. No one has in the US perhaps ever. If I'm wrong about that its ok because who is producing one now? That's an extremely big difference in the market when were talking about driving enjoyment and handling to enthusiasts who might buy a GTi or FiST. Those cars (as good as they are) would feel dynamically inferior compared to a hatchback 86 coming in under 2800-2900 lbs. Mazda has gone a long way with making "the best handling X" in most every category they've entered (Mazda2, Mazda3, CX-3, CX-5, MX-5) so much so that they sacrifice space to add handling/lightness. This specifically is in the interest of being different (and efficient). IMO a RWD hot hatch based on this platform would be just what the doctor ordered to keep sales volumes high enough to continue to produce the car for more than just the next generation. I'm totally in favor of expanding the line, if the original lightweight 2+2 is sold along with it. Which it would be. Last edited by DAEMANO; 05-09-2016 at 06:40 PM. |

I don't understand the point of this design. I have owned a BRZ for over 3 years and have never, not once, thought that I really needed some additional vertical space in the trunk. This doesn't really do much in terms of practicality and it really ruins the look of the car imho and cheapens it considerably.
If they are looking to make the car more practical, they need to add 3 inches of rear seat leg room. The real problem, and the reason sales numbers are down, is that it's about 50hp shy of perfection from the factory. I solved the problem with a supercharger, but most people want that power from the factory. I'm just confused why they wouldn't just stick the turbo engine THEY ALREADY MAKE into this car. |

This is my favorite, but a UTE/Brat would be close second.
