Just personal opinion, I'm not taking shots at anyone but I think there are just too many SUVs / crossovers out there. Don't get me wrong I love the Crosstrek I thought about getting one, and that fits maybe if you have one car for the whole household. However, the role the 86 fits I think is more just a fun car to zip around to work and back. 95% of my driving I'm alone. That said, I have a 74 Lincoln that I can load the trunk with crap (or some people have an old truck), and my Fiancée has a 4 door Impreza that's AWD and can take 4 adults reasonably. So unless you are restricted to having like one car your car should fit a specific mission. Otherwise it ends up being good at everything and great at nothing. Just my humble opinion. I'm not saying a hatch is an SUV, but it's dragging the mission role in that direction and I don't see this as a family car. Not even a couple with a dog that wants to go the beach kind of family. It's a small sports car.

Like I have said several times now this car is not ment for you, me or most others here. It is ment to grab people like you described where they want just a little more room. This could be the perfect compromise for many. I know loads of people here have said it ruins the plan for the car but they seem to miss the point that the plan for this is not the same as the plan for the coupe. Now I could understand the concern if they said the coupe was being replaced by this since then yes the plan is ruined. Like Guff said this car will probably never get built much less replace the coupe so who cares.

What better car to go to the beach and look good getting there than a sports car?

I love the idea of this and would really consider trading for one if they could make it look a little better... i would probably still consider it if it looked like this. There are many times where i wish i just had that little bit of extra space for holding tires and wheels, tools and gear when i take my dirtbike to the track, and i couldn't fit my mini fridge in my car when i moved out of my dorm lol. It would also be great if they could add some rear seat room to make it even more usable when i have more than 2 people in the car.

Well shit, shame on me for being in a situation where I only have the funds and space for one car. Lord forbid I need/want something with a bit more space to make my day to day life easier.

Not seeing how a hatch is going to absolutely ruin everything about the car, though.

Wasn't meant to shame, I only owned one car at time for like most of my life. And I meant one HOUSEHOLD car. And no shame in that either. I'm just saying I prefer cars that are more specialized rather than generalized because it compromises.

I like the idea, but this execution visually doesn't appeal much to me. Not a fan of the faux side corner window, among other things.
As for compromise, then the twins isn't for you, you should get a Miata. I love that I can use my FR-S for work and manage to carry a 6 foot ladder to sites for installtions.
Most of my other vehicles have been hatchbacks. FX16 (4 of them), AE86, Alltrac GT4. The 510 and FJ40 are exceptions, though the FJ40 is not so removed.

Nah I test drove the Miata, it's not the one.

I would buy this. Of course there are a few things I'd like to see done differently but that little bit of extra height in the rear that everybody is criticizing is just what the Dr ordered (for me.) Being a sales rep and needing to be able to travel with a couple of sample lines that space would make my life easier for sure. No I don't want a different car, small wagon or even a WRX, I want a small RWD car that I enjoy being in for over 1,000 miles a week.

You lost me at:

"It’s an extension of the 86 sports car that is already a global best seller..."

I know we were shown the image of the car and it looked satisfactory. I wouldn't mind making a decision of yes or no quite yet without knowing the specs and the price. Specs are really important for me but based on looks alone I wouldn't purchase to many automobiles. It has much potential for sure. I think it could be really a fun car. Give me some hp, tq, handling braking, light weight and an affordable price and I'm sold : )

Well I don't mind if they go ahead and make this variant with the refresh model, just don't ruin the original design.
