Toyota working on a sedan version of the 86/FR-S? Toyota Furia Concept

New Toyota Furia Sedan Concept Teased Ahead of Detroit Motor Show, Which Model Does it Preview?

Quote:
With the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit approaching closer, more and more automakers are opening their cards, though, most of the times, not to the extent we would all like…

Toyota, for example, announced on Thursday that it will host the world premiere of a new study called the Furia through a teaser video and a simple statement saying that it will be an "an exciting new sedan concept".

That's all we get from the Japanese company, so we still don't know if it's a conceptual proposal for a new offering, or a replacement for a current vehicle.

We are aware of the fact that Toyota's future plans include a successor for the Corolla compact sedan and the Prius, plus a new sub-compact offering based on the next generation of the Mazda2 that will be built by Mazda at its plant in Mexico (no word, though, if it's going to be a hatchback, a sedan or something entirely different). Or how about a sedan based on the new Scion FR-S? Only time will tell, so make sure to stay tune for more info from Toyota.

After you take a look at the screenshots and the video, head towards the comments and tell us what you think the Furia is.

Corolla is progressively falling to the Focus so I would say this will be a car targeted at the Focus...which will mean it needs sporty lines, carbon fiber, etc. Doubt it'll be rwd or use the boxer engine so it won't really be a sedan version of our car.

Autoweek came to the same conclusion:

Toyota FT-86 sedan tipped

Older article but you get the idea

Using the FT-86?s platform for a sports sedan (our artists impression pictured) is a kind of insurance policy to cover any potential shortfall FT-86 sales.

Quote:
THERE is more to Toyota's youth-driven FT-86 project than people first thought.

The born-again Sprinter is definitely a coupe and now there will be a four-door sedan for Toyota showrooms. Even though sedans are not popular in Japan - with the exception of the car sold as the Lexus IS200 and Toyota Altezza - Toyota can see serious potential in a global car from the FT-86.

The loyal Altezza customers are one reason why, according to a source close to Toyota, the sedan has been given the go-ahead. It also helps that the basics are available and easy to tweak for four-door work.

In truth, using the FT-86’s platform for a sports sedan is a kind of insurance policy to cover any potential shortfall FT-86 sales. At the same time, it makes the most of the rare rear-drive platform.

One Japanese commentator even goes so far as to say that the sports sedan project is a safety net, just in case the FT-86 fails, so that Toyota does not have to cancel the project altogether.

The Carsguide source tells us that the sedan will not only incorporate the FT-86’s Subaru Liberty-based mechanical package, but get the same 150-kiloWatt boxer engine and six-speed manual transmission (or CVT) from the Impreza as well.

Expected to fall into a segment rivalling something between the BMW 1- Series and 3-Series, and including the Audi A3 and the Golf GTI, the Japanese domestic sticker price should land near $30,000.

Given that more power might be required down the line, Toyota will have the ability to bring the Subaru Outback’s 3.6 litre H6 engine into the equation. But by the time the new sports sedan - not to mention the FT-86 coupe- finally makes it to showrooms in 2012, Subaru will have its own in- house hybrid boxer engine.

This will create yet another powertrain opportunity for Toyota and a package that will, according to our source, be more exciting to drive than Toyota’s current crop of hybrids.

Toyota Teases Sporty Furia Concept Ahead Of 2013 Detroit Auto Show

Quote:
Toyota has confirmed it will unveil a new concept car at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show next month, and to help build excitement has released this fiery teaser video.

The only official details are that the new concept will be called the Furia, and it will be sedan.

As the video reveals, the Furia concept looks to be a sporty sedan resembling something straight out of the Fast and Furious movies. Perhaps that’s even where Toyota derived the concept’s name from.

Some of the visible elements in the teaser are a carbon fiber diffuser with integrated exhaust tips, a carbon fiber trunk lid spoiler, sunken headlights, a hexagonal-pattern grille, and angular tail-lights littered with LEDs.

The few seconds at the end of the short teaser clip show the car’s profile, which looks similar to the NS4 plug-in hybrid sedan concept from the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. At the time of its unveiling, Toyota said the NS4 hinted at the automaker’s future styling direction.

As for the Furia, Toyota hasn't revealed whether it previews a future production model, though there’s been some speculation that the platform underpinning the Scion FR-S could eventually spawn a sporty rear-wheel-drive sedan--perhaps a replacement for the Mark X sold overseas?

Of course, we could just be looking at a preview of the next-generation Corolla sedan, which is due for a redesign next year.

We should know more once the Furia makes its Detroit debut. The unveiling is currently scheduled for January 14 at 2:25 pm EST. You can follow our ongoing coverage of the 2013 Detroit Auto Show in the meantime via our dedicated show page.

lol.

Sure, why not. If you're going to go adding doors and stuff though, they'd better consider adding more power.

It looks like the rebirth of the Lexus SC 300. This time they'll probably badge it Scion!

Lexus is saying that the LF-CC will replace the discontinued Lexus SC. Size wise (183.4inch), it fits in between the 1st gen (191.3 in/192.5 in) and 2nd gen SC (177.8 in/178.5 in). Reports are also saying its about 3inch longer than its IS sedan sibling.
