Why? Because in the grand scheme of things this is a fairly inexpensive car so if someone has a budget of say $30k in mind they can load this up and still be at or under their target. My target was much lower, I have a premium

Some of you here say that the up charge between the premium and limited is around $1,000. That is horse sh**. I was at Subaru yesterday and the 2019's are going for

Premium : $25, 745
Limited : $29, 899
Series Grey : $31,010

As always, this is going to vary heavily on location and dealer.

I got a limited + PP 2017 for less than your Limited cost OTD.

People here are talking about the actual prices that people have paid. The prices that you listed above are MSRP... you do realize that most people don’t just show up and purchase a car for MSRP, right?

IIRC, my '14 limited was somewhere around $26k OTD...

Free options are great. I'd never pay MSRP for keyless and dual climate control.
Not having heated seats is the thing I miss most, being in a cold climate. I wish that was a checkbox option, with no deal on a package I'd take the seats and ditch the other features.

When I was looking at my 17 86, there were no trim level options. You had to buy the 860 edition to get the "limited" trim features.
I ended up spec'ing fog lights and a spoiler on my own.

I grabbed a leftover 17 just before the 18s came out. They weren't going to give me a deal on a 86 GT, so I didn't bother waiting.

I am just against the $1,000 difference for a new current year BRZ Premium vs Limited. There is no way in hell you are paying $1,000 more for Brembo brakes, dual climate controls, fog lights etc.
@ Spike021, I agree with you on prices varying on dealer location.

...Waiting on Tcoat to throw in his reply. Always has a good and valid answer.

to be fair, if they had a premium that's sat on the lot just as long, it likely is going to be a similar cost reduction off msrp.

If you want a good laugh you should see what some of the people paid when the cars first came out.

You are misreading what people are writing. Knocking $4k off a car a dealership is desperate to sell when it has been on a lot for 3 or 4 months is easy. They could have easily knocked the same amount off of a premium. Some dealerships still have cars that are a year old or more on the lots they cannot sell. Outside of certain areas these cars are very hard to sell. The autos can be almost impossible to move. I mean it is pathetic any dealer would still have a series.gray on the lot.

Well first off we don't even really know how many new Limited's were sold vs Premiums. The OP has made an assumption based on a look at used car sales. Maybe there were actually far more Premiums sold but the owners are hanging onto them longer so they just don't show up in the used car market. This whole thread could be invalid since it is based on assumptions instead of real data. We don't have that data.

If we accept the assumptions as accurate and based purely upon the anecdotal information here then there are indeed many, many people that paid in the $1000 range over the Premium price for their Limited. People think that since cars are expensive that there must be a massive mark up on them. This is not true. The real life dealer profits on a car are usually between 2% and 5%. They do not make a whole lot on each car so they need to sell a shitload of them. They also make money on factory incentives that are usually based on number of sales regardless of how much they sold the cars for. If they can sell more Limited's by knocking $1800 off (more on that in a minute) so that it only costs $1000 over a Premium then they can make more money in the long run so that is what they will do. I don't think anybody here has been saying the Limited are listed at only a $1000 over the Premiums but with even half decent negotiating they can be bought for that.

OK so you mentioned Brembos. That is not a standard feature of a Limited but an option package available only on that trim level. The Premium costs about $25800, the Limited $28600 and the Limited with PP About $29700. Let's leave special edition versions out of all this since they are so few that they really don't matter in this exercise. It has been reported by many on here that they got the PP thrown in for "free". That would be a $1000 savings even if they paid full MRSP for the Limited. Since this package can only be had on the Limited then that alone could push up the number of units sold over the Premium.

The moral of this story is that the dealers can and will discount the higher trim levels in order to make a sale. They may not move as far on the price of the lower trim though since if somebody is pushing for $3000 off a base model then odds are they are going to have problems selling it in the first place.

A friend of mine bought his 2017 series.yellow, which came with performance pack out the door for 26k. They couldn't get it off their lot, it takes a special person to buy these cars in some states.

I'll still take my base model FRS over anything else, I like tearing cars apart and not worrying about expensive dash trim. Also if my car gets wrecked, there are a million other red FRS for me to replace it with. Yeah they won't feel the same, but at least I won't be pining for yellow stitching on my dash or keyless start. I hate push button start

This is something that people in the warmer areas may not understand. Sales start to drop off in September and don't pick up again until May. There are very few people looking for sports cars when the snow is falling and the wind is blowing. Some of these cars that "sit for months" are expected too by the dealer. They know they aren't going to move them through the winter but still have to take delivery of them as per the schedule. Once the spring rolls around they usually seem to sell them off very quickly. At least around here.
