I know I'm reviving an old thread but, here are my thoughts:

Unless the surface is covered in a layer of gravel or the feild is un-cut grass two feet high, the potential for scratches is minimal. I've been active in RX since 2008 and haven't seriously hurt any of the 4 different cars I've used (95 Escort, 07 WRX, 10 MS3, 13 Golf R), and I don't have many reservations about taking my new FR-S to a RallyCross.

That said, ask questions of the seasoned veterans before you go. Or go once as a spectator and ask if you can do ride alongs. I've been to Oregon, Colorado, Nebraska and Oklahoma for events at a total of 7 different sites and only one is/was rough enough for me to not use one of my daily driven cars.

I started doing rallyx in like 2003? I can think of a couple courses I did I wouldn't want to run a FR-S/BRZ on but not many. And I've certainly seen all kinds of cars out there, including some luxury sedans, lots of Miatas, and even a 93 RX-7.

Atlanta has a site now and is doing rallycross for the first time and I've been tempted since my car is still at stock ride height. From videos I've seen it's really smooth and would be absolutely no problem in our cars. If you can find a video of the site ahead of time it will go a long way to figuring out whether you want to run the car or not. We've got quite a bit of travel in these cars, the shocks are almost the same as the 08+ WRX.

This was sort of a Rally on Tarmac:

No need to worry about scratching it, as long as you stay on the road.
(They call this slalom here).
