When the Runoffs were at Indy in 2017 they had a huge turnout and T4 had one of the biggest fields ever @ 40 cars.
So far, the 2021 registration page shows 43 cars registered for T4 with 11 of them being 86s! This is the 3rd largest grid at the Runoffs behind Spec Pinata and Spec Racer Ford3 (SRF3). There's also a couple 86s in STL which is another big class w/ 29 entries.

I am going to do my best to get down there. It's 3 1/2 hour drive. The fab shop called and my 86 will be ready to pick up on Wed. Finally about two months late but I guess you can't rush art! I want to see the 86's and get some more information. Looking forward to meeting you guys and watching you race.

The runoffs at Indy is fast approaching. We have been busy making plans, obtaining spares, etc.
I would say doing final prep on my car as well but... I posted some pics of my car after it got damaged in the build thread https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...=143564&page=4 In the meantime, RiceClassic and I built a box for the spare motor. Pretty happy with result. With four people, it will be easy to move around. It was a bit of strain with just the two us. On the trailer This week and next weekend I will be organizing bins with spares and continue to organize and load the trailer. |

We made it to Indy. Sitting outside waiting to register and get credentials to enter the track.
Washed the rigs last night and lined up in the staging area around 11:30pm eastern. I feel like a kid in a candy shop!!! I'll post some more once we get set up. Rick |

Beautiful morning. Registration did not open till noon. So got in line around 11:45.
Did not expect to stand in line for nearly four hours though. We did get in finally and started unloading. Here is the car with the new body panels. And Colin showed up. Roldan is arriving tomorrow evening. I have a test day tomorrow. 4 sessions. I have 3 sessions on Sunday. |

You damn troglodyte, I'm gonna slap that phone out of your hand if you keep takin' picture of me!
In other news - I've learned that 38 hours of driving over 3 days combined with whiskey and blackened catfish make me feel funny. However I did do some late night laps around the paddock on a fancy scooter with disco lighting (pics to come) and that was not wise as I was not wearing a helmet. Racing isn't only about racing - remember that folks. As I type this it's 11:19pm in the paddock and there's a crew next to me fixing 2 cars while listening to mariachi music. Who knows what tomorrow brings. @Turfer I'm looking forward to looking at your footage and data tomorrow so I can hit the ground running on Sunday. LLLLEEEEEROOOOOOYYYYYYYYYY JEEEEEEENNNNKINNNnnnnnnssssss!!!!

Picture of Disco Scooter!
I was left alone with my beer and a paint pen Suffering the same registration pains as Turfer TRACK WALK! Got the car on scales - Not bad for crosses, only about 4lbs off per corner. If I took 20lbs off the driver and put it in the passenger compartment I'd be great.

Status Update After qualifying 1 we found ourselves in 13th, 14th and 16th respectively. After qualifying 2 (of 3) we are now 12th, 13th and 18th respectively. Broken records The top 11 cars have beat the existing qualifying record. I am 2/10ths away from doing so myself which I expect to do tomorrow. My goal is to qualify in the top 10, which means I need to find 7/10ths of a second - my data suggests this is doable. The Year of the Miata You will notice that in the top 10, 7 are MX-5s, 1 RX8 and 2 86s. This is very much the year of the Miata in T4 because of the current BOP (balance of performance) which favored them. After all, the MX5 that won the runoffs last year is currently the pole sitter. They are every bit as fast as the 86s in a straight line, yet carry 300 fewer pounds on the same tire. 46 cars have posted a qualifying time. 7/10ths of a second covers 9 positions while 8/10ths covers the next 8 positions. The primary reason I want to qualify a bit higher is the fact that behind the front pack is where all the shenanigans are expected to occur. In 2017 they were considered a "good group" yet there was plenty of contact and this year, we are not frankly a good group. Every session has been littered with yellow flags, even a black flag. During the first qualifying session we only got 1 flying lap, then we had: car to car contact, a car with a major mechanical failure, another car spun while another car came to rest against the wall leading onto the straight. On the Test Days there was so little cautionary driving around yellow flags that the safety crews were going to stop doing hot pulls because they didn't feel safe. Only God knows what's in hold for the race.

Congrats on moving up to the Top 5 finish for you guys! Crazy race, you called it with the bad group and crashes, and even with the BOP difference this year an 86 got the win. Looking forward to reading your full update

Great job out there today. That race was ridiculous for a runoff. Nice job staying out of trouble and made it to 3rd for a few laps. So did you make it thru that without damage?

However - the 3rd place car was penalized and I was moved into the tech shed where I passed inspection was promoted to 3rd place (not yet made official as I type this). The fella that was penalized was going to appeal but I think he may have dropped that effort - need to confirm. However they DID do the award ceremony with the medals and I have a 3rd place medal in my position. Video from our cars is bonkers but I'm on cellular so when I'm home (4 days) I'll cut and splice and upload. but.... 16th to 3rd ain't bad at INDY baby!
