Height recommendation?

2015 frs with Tein flex a EDFC active pro
Daily driver/spirited driving whenever traffic allows
I live in Boston snow in the winter
Should I leave it at stock height or can I lower an inch or 2, is there any benefit to lower 1-2inch from stock height
I want height that will clear speed bump

I wouldn't go any lower than 1.5" drop. Past that and you'll start running into geometry issues and increasing the possibility of killing the CV joints. Not to mention all the scraping and bottoming out that can happen. Since you have coils you might want to run around 1.5" drop in summer and raise it back up some in winter. For reference the service manual shows the stock ride height as 14.75" from hub center to fender.

1" would be perfect. Snow varies in height, if you're afraid of getting hung up, don't drive in it I'm in Vermont and I've driven a 1989 Miata one winter that was 1" lowered, and several e36 bmws that all were lowered at least 1.5" and never got stuck.

Go for it, you won't regret it!

I'm lowered about 1.2-1.5". Drive in snow and over speed bumps no problem. Only scrape slightly on steep driveways, but if you go in a tad sideways, you'll be fine

Forgive me if I confuse 1-2” lower than stock, not 1-2” off the ground I’m not that crazy, I think stock is 6” off the ground, I think lower it to 4-5”, wondering if there any benefit with handling? If not I’ll leave it at stock height

Personally, I'd leave it stock height. Not because of snow, but because of the endless road construction going on in Massachusetts. I hold my breath every time I'm forced to straddle a raised manhole on the road while I'm driving. All it takes is one a bit too tall....

Supposedly a 15mm drop optimizes suspension geometry. But realistically anything up to around 1.5" (38mm) drop shouldn't hurt handling. It's really just a matter of preference.

I figure if I lower a bit it might improve handling but if not I’ll leave it at stock height

Had my car every height under the sun. Here's what I learned.


Standard height on fully stock car still looks decent. Keep the car clean and people will think you don't mod and will appreciate the clean lines on the car. You'll appreciate the ride remaining reasonable and no extra wear and tear on components.



Lowered -5" to -8" is the sweet spot for ride comfort and clearing parking blocks on lowering springs or coilovers. For ppl that DD their cars, this is absolutely the best way to get a more aggressive look while maintaining reasonable ride quality.



Lowered -1.0" to -1.5" looks a lot better, but your ride will suffer and you will bump parking blocks. You will still clear speed bumps but will need to come down most ramps/driveways diagonally and SLOW. Also at -1.5" you will be putting extra pressure on the CV axles. I snapped two of them (at -1.5" and -1.75" in the rear). Raised the car after the second break violently tore up my ring and pinion.


-1.5" to -2.0". Looks great. At -2.0" you start to get into slammed/stanced territory, if you like that look it will look great to you. You won't clear anything, your ride on most coilovers will also feel like shit. Your axles will pay the price and so will your wallet. Sometimes it costs to look good. Make your choice.
