Nice 80 degree day in sunny SoCal, decided since I'm already putting that silencer on I might as well extend my 30 second job to a nice long wash and cleaning of the engine bay!
Also, I found my camera battery charger in storage so no more cell phone crap. Postprocessing goooooooooooooooo!

I was pretty unhappy about it before the silencer. I mean, it sounded great and all, but it had more drone capability than the US Air Force so off the track when there's not fiberglass and two inches of foam over my ears I was stuck shifting under 3k unless I wanted to set car alarms off as I drove by. You also couldn't speak to anyone in the car over about 4k.
At idle it is 105dB, according to HKS. The stock system is 55dB at 5ft. That's over 16 times louder than stock at idle lol. Even at 6k the stock exhaust is 98, so almost half as loud as IDLE on the HKS. With the silencer, it's pretty awesome. Kinda a long answer, but the key point is that the silencer is easily removable, makes it beyond bearable to redline, and costs like $35. I went from being on the fence about keeping it to getting ready to sell all my old exhaust stuff. It's also under $600 shipped from Redline360, and is powdercoated until the muffler, so it's a pretty crazy deal.

Thanks! Just went to the car wash and used the pressure washer. Then I used the air hose to dry it and wiped it down with quick detail spray.

So I looked through my email, and though it's not technically an exact answer, FedEx weighed the box (obviously, this includes the box and the lightweight packing [which wasn't peanuts but special space-filling solid formed bags]) and it came in at 33.20 lbs. So I think it's safe to say that the system weighs at most about 30 lbs. The stock catback is about 41lbs. So, it's a pretty significant reduction, and this is a 3" exhaust too with muffler and Helmholtz.

The fronts look very concave for 18x8.5 +33 compared to the others iv seen, is it because they are the sp spec and how the machined spokes?

Update: Double checked everything and they are +33 front. I updated my post to reflect the confirmed offsets.

Took that road up to Kernville and back through Kern Canyon and tested the recording setup:
Sadly about a half hour on Granite Road this happened: So the GoPro has a smudge of a fly in the shot for half the ride up. The footage is still good enough to share though, so I don't mind too much. However, the brewery was amazing. Spent a couple of hours there sampling everything and brought some goodies back with me: The drive back wasn't as fun due to all the camper vans and double cab trucks on the narrow canyon roads, but there were no bugs and everyone used the turnouts to let me pass which was great. All in all, a pretty great day. |

^^^ looks like a nice trip. weather is getting nice around here too, time to put away the winter beater.
Did my second oil change today at 21k km. Notice that I seems to have drained out much less oil than i put in? did i burn it somewhere? doesn't notice it leaking but the drain plug was noticeable stain with oil when i went to loosen it. tighten it as best as i can now see how is it. how does everybody else's dipstick read? mine looks like its at 75%. i put in 1 4.4l big jug and one small 1 L jug for a combination of 5.4L seems right not? Try to change out my diff oil today only to discover that i don't have the necessary hex socket. will have to do that next time. its been 21k km and i still haven't change out the diff. should i be paranoid and park it till i am able to change it out? or does everybody else just go with the 30k miles change mark for the diff even for the first time? |
