I could be wrong, but I think you're going to need bigger injectors to go FI with E85.

I don't think so. But I could be wrong. Lol. I think the beauty with E85 is that you don't have to. To get to 300whp.

Does OFT have an off the shelf tune available for E85 and the Vortech or are you getting a tuner to do it? If a tuner, they'll let you know exactly what you'll need.

Clutch isn't necessary for 300. Nothing else is actually needed other than your FI kit, tuning solution, and possibly injectors.

Still, better brakes and clutch would be nice to have.

I'm fairly sure there's no off the shelf e85 tune for the vortech.

You're mixed up on your needs for fuel system with FI and e85... you absolutely will need bigger injectors. The "beauty" of e85 as you put it is that it's readily available and cheap high octane gas. The drawback is that you need a much larger amount of it. I get about 20% worse fuel mileage from e85 because you need about 20% more fuel.

So yes, to run e85 you will need bugger injectors, maybe a fuel pump. The good news is that with FI once you do those things the gains with E85 are pretty large, so then you probably do need a clutch. From what I've heard, the first part of our drivetrain to completely break is axles, so you may need those too.

So I need more e85 pushed into engine. Just because of higher octane. Why? If I was on 93 I wouldn't need injectors. Can't they tune for higher octane and same amount of fuel. Just asking I'm new to all this. Thnx. I'm not looking for big power just a little more than the 93 tune can give.

It's not because of the octane, the difference the octane makes is that you have greater knock resistance which means you have more room to run boost and timing. I'm not a tuner by any means, so this is a pretty basic explanation.

You need bigger injectors because the energy density of ethanol is lower than gasoline. In other words, the sheer volume of ethanol needed is higher than gasoline, even if you can get the power out of it more efficiently.

Put differently, apples to apples, if you have the headroom in your fuel system to run ethanol, and leave everything else the same but the tune, you will definitely get more power from ethanol.

The problem comes in the fact that there's enough injector headroom in the stock system to make about 250-275ish hp at the wheel on gasoline. If you add ethanol to a set up that makes that much power, you're pushing well into the 300hp range, but now you need to move 20% more fuel.

I'm not really sure where the stock fuel system tops out with e85. The Phantom ESC seems to be getting toward 230ish on e85, I'm not sure if anyone is making anything right now that would push it any further without going way over. I haven't seen any other FI solution that can run e85 to its full potential without fuel upgrades.

Oh ok. Thanks for help. Much appreciated. I'll talk to my tuner and look into injectors. Any idea which ones will work for me?

Can't help you there.

You might find that the OFT 300 without e85 is plenty of power. FWIW, in my state at least the price difference between premium and e85 ends up staying pretty perfect to the point where it's more or less a financial wash, if that's your motivation. Unless you're shooting for a wheel hp number well into the 350+ range, I wouldn't suggest getting too far ahead of yourself.

E85 is marvelous, gets you more power, and knock resistant. You really dont need it for 300whp. You need it on a stock motor running closer to 350-370+. The injectors alone required to run E85 are several hundred for a set.

Injector Dynamics makes 1000cc injectors that have gotten high praise on this platform for their easiness to tune and scaling abilities.

Personally I wouldnt run E85 unless i wanted 370 or more to the wheels. But its your call.

I thought it would help with getting to 300whp without putting an aggressive tune on 93 to get same whp. That was my logic in thinking. I just want a safe reliable tune for 300whp

E85 on a Vortech gets you past 350 from the dynos that other folks have provided.

Can you detune it to be closer to 300? Sure but since you'd be going through the expense of getting it tuned for E85 which would need the bigger injectors and a custom tune, might as well take advantage of it.

Best to check with your tuner as to what injectors they advise on.

When I looked into getting it done with a flex fuel kit I was told DW 550's would be fine.
