I would like to thank Brenda and Gordon from Edge Motorworks for letting me drive their BRZ today at the So Cal practice at AAA Speedway. Their car handles great on the BFG Rivals and the car seemed competitive with Mr. Stuart, whose time I matched.

How do you like the STX BRZ compared to your STR MX-5?

Good question... the BRZ drove very similarly, but was just a bit slower at everything. Felt slightly down on power to the MX5, and just slightly less sharp handling. I was at a 48.7 in the MX5 and 49.7 in the BRZ, although I may have been able to take a few tenths off given a few more runs in the BRZ.
Brakes felt better on the BRZ. BRZ needs a race seat... my right leg was banging into the center dash and would no doubt be pretty bruised if I ran it all day. I do sit pretty close though. My car was on 150 run Z2's and the BRZ on fairly fresh looking BFGs. Grip levels felt very similar. Course was fairly high speed maintenance, which played into the strengths of the MX5 and BRZ over other STR/STX cars. On a slightly unrelated note, we ran some 245/40 Z1's on my car in the morning, and the 255/40 Z2's were definitely an improvement over the Z1. Car was much easier to drive on the Z2 and faster. I have tried the 235/40 Z2 earlier in the year and hated them - way too edgy. |

Just ordered my KW's and Vorshlag camber plates. How many of you flipping springs front to back? Swaybars?

Did you just use the threaded sleeves to converet your CS setup to STX? The MCS's are inserts up front like Koni's are they not? Thanks -Nick EDIT: I didn't realize they where threaded already with an OEM spring perch available for stock class.

If you order the setup new from MCS it won't match what I have, they use a different shaft for non-stock setups and the newest version of the shocks actually use a shorter shock body so you can lower the car more and keep the same travel. With stiffer springs even mine will still have a ton of travel, they aren't going to bottom out or anything. They are mainly doing it for road racing guys who are dropping the car >2". The shafts I have are machined to use the stock tophats, so I will need to get some camber plates which are machined to work with a "stock" strut shaft. GC already makes some, and Raceseng is planning on making some. HVT can supply them as well. |

Thanks for the info. I have Koni's and have thought about converting them to run coilover style springs which is why I got excited I have the HVT camber plates installed. They are very high quality, I recommend.

STX Set-Up Sharing & Results Thread
So any updates to everybody's build?
I can't decide whether to run street or STX next year but was thinking of getting the Perrin catback. However, if I end up going STX then would it be better to run a turn down for weight savings? Or is the Perrin catback (37 lbs?) still ok. Also which is better offset for the 17x9 rpf1's, the +35 or +45? Thanks! Last edited by Aznsky; 09-15-2013 at 01:29 PM. |

- If you have stock struts, +35, you need the clearance in the front to run a 245 without hitting the lower spring perch. - If you have coilovers, +45, you need the clearance to clear the outside edge of the tire in the front and rear. You should definitely read the "will this fit" thread before buying anything: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15007

I'm not sure why it would matter between Street and STX, if the goal is to lighten the car. One issue with using a muffler delete in STX is the sound can be a bit loud if you go full tilt with a catless header, high-flow front pipe, and muffler-less exhaust. So if you run at sites with sound restrictions I would keep that in mind.
As for RPF1s, a lot of guys are running the +45 with 245s and it's really close even with coilovers, and some have had minor rubbing for whatever reason. Some have run 5mm spacers for more clearance. +35 isn't really an issue but those RPF1s aren't as easy to get ahold of. |

STX Set-Up Sharing & Results Thread
Wait so if I wanted to run STX wheels/tires for a year with stock suspension, can I run with +45's and a 5mm spacer? Can u run a 5mm spacer on stock studs?
Any issues with fender rubbing on +35's? How much camber would need to be run on the lowered cars? Last edited by Aznsky; 09-15-2013 at 07:38 PM. |
