Tire upgrade for stock wheels

Sorry if this has been posted plenty of times wasn't able to find any thread on this, my tires are starting to go bald so the time is now to choose new tires. But what i want to know is with the stock wheels how much bigger and wider can i go?As far as the brand i'm thinking Michelin pilot super sports for street driving and backroads since this is no longer my daily driver, is this a good choice? thanks all.

215/45 is not a bad size, the OEM tires just aren't good. But you can fit 215/45 or 225/45 on the OEM wheels with no problems.

If you're doing streets and backroads, no tracks, MPSS is great, Continental DW is great and cheaper, there are a lot of good options. Some people swear by this one vs that one, but it really is personal preference.

I would use 225/45/17 MPSS on the stock wheels.

Thanks, plenty of people mention a website called tirerack for good deals on tires but was thinking of just going over to costco. Any experience with em?

Costco is wonderful. Tirerack is also great, but keep in mind that they don't include shipping in their prices. When I was last at Costco they matched the Tirerack price for 215/45-17 MPSS. They didn't carry that size in stock, so they had to order them. Mounting, balance, disposal of the old tire is $15 per tire. Also, every month they have $70 off of either Bridgestone or Michelin. They swap back and forth between them.

Sears have decent deals, too...I am thinking of going MPSS in a month or two, but I will have a couple of track runs this summer in addition to backroads.

When I originally switched out my tires, I went with 225/45 MPSS. I just recently had to replace them and went back to 215/45. I like the look better of the 215/45 and no less grip than the 225/45. If you are anywhere near stock HP you won't need larger. I'm on E85 with full exhaust and have 0 grip issues.

225/45/17 is about as wide as you can go.
As for the Mpss if your pay more than $120 for that tire your getting ripped off. The Mpss is an ok tire, but you can get way way better tire's for less.

When it comes to tire prices tire rack either has the deals or not. Shop around, ask your local tire shop, sometimes they could match the tire rack price installed.

MPSS is a phenomenal all around spring/summer/fall tire. Do not drive them in snow or ice. Downright dangerous. Are there stickier tires? Absolutely! But do they come with a 30,000 mile warranty? Absolutely not. According to Tire Rack, the MPSS is the best all around tire you can buy.

According to tire rack... They do have 30,000 mile warranty.

Nah, it's a some what ok tire, but.... It falls victim to shandy dealers that clearly over sell this tire to noobs. Just because it's the same brand OEM tire the car came with.
They use that to try to make their profit.

The 30k mile warrant? Oh please, every tire sold from tire rack or any tire shop has the option of "road hazard" warranty for an additional fee. Usually about $7 per tire. Even if tire shops don't offer that they have some kind of warranty.

Like I said if you pay more than $120 for this tire your getting ripped off.

The 30k warranty is a manufacturer warranty from Michelin - nothing to do with Tire Rack. There's a bunch of conditions, but basically you'll be able to get back a prorated amount of money. They do actually include the 'Road Hazard' warranty with all tires free of charge now as well; they used to charge for it (I think this changed ~a year ago). It's saved my ass twice with my previous car where I have had 2 brand new winter tires (separate occasions) delivered and reimbursed for by the road hazard warranty.

OP - MPSS is a perfect daily/summer tire with phenomenal grip in the wet, you'll like it.
