Agreed on most counts. The weight gain is pretty lame. A little is excused. Several hundred pounds...no.

I kind of like it, and i'm not a corvette fan.

Probably because it doesn't resemble one at all.

It will carry over a lot of styling cues to keep it looking enough like a Corvette. I am glad they are still going to produce the FR model though.

This rendered showed up on the IMSA FB page.

Is it just me or does that seem like a lot of aero for a street car? Are they just testing out theory before they come to a more reasonable design, or is this some track edition that they are confirming will win races or be awesome before they make it more subtle?

From what I was reading this is supposed to be their new pace car. So I'm guessing it should get a little makeover before it gets to the consumers.

Those door handles are MASSIVE.

Kidding aside, I think this will look better than the NSX.

Source? Would be really surprised if GM chose to spend the resources to engineer two completely different cars both aimed at the same niche, low-volume market segment.

..but on the flip side can you see them abandoning the $60-100 K sports car segment especially when it is considered by many as the quintessential choice? I would be very surprised if this new mid engine Chevy came in as low as $100 K so to me they won't be stepping on their own toes.

I agree. My 2016 Corvette is a terrific car. I got mine 20% off MSRP (Sub $50K, 460HP with a dry sump motor) so there isn't anything around to touch it price performance wise. I'm still thinking this will come out as a Caddy,,, or a model name other than Corvette. I can't see GM giving up their Corvette fan base unless they can build this car for a similar price point,,, I don't think they can do that.

I have read several places over the last year that the front engine car will continue to be produced at least for the next couple years. You should be able to find the articles if you Google.

I am expecting the mid-engine car to be at least $150K. There is plenty of room under that price for the FR Vette. In fact, I think it would be crazy for Chevy not to produce both models. Many of the Corvette's traditional purist may balk at the mid-engine design.

EDIT: I Googled just now and found yet another even more recent article that mentions that both cars may continue to be produced at the same time : https://www.motor1.com/news/261977/m...duction-rumor/

Recent upgrades at the Bowling Green plant reportedly allow for the assembly line to build both the existing Corvette and the mid-engined model, this person also claims. This rumor lends credence to rumors that Chevy would sell both models simultaneously. The decision would keep the Bowtie from alienating traditional 'Vette fans while offering a vehicle that likely has even higher performance capabilities.
