Wheel Studs part of Powertrain Warranty
One of the wheel studs (the bolt that the lug nut connects to) sheered off. I was wondering if this is part that is covered under the powertrain warranty.

No. It is general warranty. If they cover it at all.

Yeah, wouldn't be something covered under powertrain. As @Tcoat suggested, they likely wouldn't even cover it under the "bumper to bumper" coverage....unless you have an awesome relationship with your local dealer and do all the maintenance there. Even then, it would be tough to get covered.

Yes it would be covered if there is a defect. Most likely the stud yielding is from improper maintenance. Who all has R&R'd the wheel? If only the dealer has they will probably cover it if you can prove it. If you or multiple shops have there is no way to prove who torqued the nut improperly.
I had a friends Dad that had a Honda. At about 50K miles the drain plug sheared during removal. The dealer stated it needed a new oil pan and gave him the cost. He had them pull the records and that dealer was the only place that car ever had an oil change since new. The dealer covered the pan replacement. |

With that being said, service managers can use their own discretion when it comes to approving repairs outside of warranty and that's why it can be of great benefit to have a good relationship with your local dealer. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk |

Wheel studs are in fact covered by the Powertrain Warranty...See picture, item #8 (wheel stud-Subaru calls it a Hub Bolt)
See warranty guide, part #8 covered by Powertrain (indicated by the asterisk) and by Subaru Added Security Gold Extended Warranty (indicated by the G) Subaru Service Manager 15+ years...

Not sure if this has changed (haven't worked for Subaru since 2012), but I've never seen them cover a broken stud. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk |

Again it comes down to is it a defective part. A defective stud would most likely yield during torque. Most broken studs are from improper torque and or corrosion. those are not covered by Subaru. I have been a Subaru service manager for 0- years!

Of course, the warranty only covers defects in workmanship or materials. But they are covered.

Update: So Gemini Motors Subaru refused to cover it under warranty.
They also decided to change out 2 hub bolts and charge me 2x the labour rate without communicating or getting my authorization. Won't release my car without if I didn't pay it. Edit, I authorized them to change out 1 hub bolt and labour, but not 2 |

Not sure if warranty coverage is the same in Canada...
