1) It helps protect the sheet metal from getting dents if you get too exuberant when slamming the trunk. Important for me when I travel with large low brass instruments in hard cases. 2) It DOES make a difference in road noise when travelling with rear seat down (which I do a lot - see #1 re: large brass instruments). Reduces some of the noise transmitted through the trunk lid (particularly when I had my TRD exhaust). When the seat is up, it doesn't do a whole lot. Doug |

I will say that the sound quality from the 2015 head unit is better, with more robust bass and more control over tonal options. The 2015 head unit fit all Scions but was "tuned" for the FR-S. The 2020 head unit is actually pretty cheap and simple, sounds a bit tinny, and has only very basic tone controls that don't seem to actually do much. But it does support Android Auto, which was important to me. As a musician, I listen to LOTS of classical music and Jazz. In the greater Boston area, we have the best classical on 99.5 WCRB. I can get this with HD FM on the 2015 head unit from two different transmitters. I use my phone to get 91.1 KCSM Jazz from the SF bay area and to get WCRB when travelling. |

It could be you tires. The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S's are going to be quieter I would imagine. I found the stock tires to be loud.

I do know that even my winter Blizzak WS80's are quieter than the Bridgestone Turanza EL400's (POS!) that were OEM on my New England 2015 FR-S. I replaced the Turanza's with Michelin PSS's and then 4S's. The 4S's are the quietest of the bunch. I don't know about the Primacy's that were OEM on the 2020 Hakone 86, since I never drove it with them on. I will put those tires on my OEM FR-S rims and will sell the FR-S with that tire wheel combination. Doug |

It’s not just that, if you put the new 4.3 differential on cars before 2017 you will notice the newer car is indeed quieter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Can't quote you for some reason
That's interesting. Why does the 4.3 would make the car quieter? |

I like to throw another thought into the 'it's quieter' debate. I think that cars for the American market are down spec'd to meet the tougher cost brackets etc. Hence, cars are rather basic and with that you get greater NVH. The 'newer' American market cars could be nearer European specs..

Regarding noise, don’t forget the underbody aerodynamic plates. They come on the higher end 2017+ models. They did not come on my 2017 base model and I don’t believe they were on the FRS models either. I added them and they made a bit of a difference at highway speeds.

You'll love them. Be careful with the points where the panels mount over the fiber board. There should be spacers or special taller shoulder screws provided [but are not]. Blue Loctite helps.

Thanks! I've had that off and have seen the spacers you're talking about. I'm anal when I take things apart and have a box of zip top baggies, schmatic and a labeler handy! Sometimes you don't get back to stuff as quick as you like...
