Smile Phoenix Performance - Tuning and products in SA

Phoenix Performance

This is the official introduction of Phoenix Performance Pty (LTD).
We will be updating this thread with all new developments, so stay TUNED!

Background

We are currently one of the few local companies in South Africa that does all our tuning for the GT86/BRZ.

We have built and tuned hundreds of cars - with our routes mainly in Subaru and Mitsubishi’s, ranging from simple rebuilds to 500wkw project cars.

Having over 10 years of experience in the performance industry, founder and owner Marco Da Costa prides himself in the research and development of custom tuning cars for track and road use, aftermarket modifications and engine building services for both private and professional sectors.

The accumulation of these skills has evolved to the launch and introduction to car enthusiasts of Phoenix Performance.

Phoenix Performance has been associated with prestigious names in the racing industry, such as:

– The Sasol Bridgestone Production Series – Subaru Race Team

– Scribante Racing

These services included engine building and ECU custom tuning. Coming from a mechanical engineering background Marco has the ability to understand the specific requirements of aftermarket modifications and custom fabrications required to optimally enhance the performance of your car.

Marco has worked with and tested a variety of aftermarket performance parts throughout his years of service within the performance sector. Phoenix Performance has now partnered with their preferred suppliers to offer a selected range of aftermarket parts to fellow enthusiasts and the professional sectors.

Phoenix Performance offers Rand based pricing which is the price you see is the price you pay. No more unexpected surprises of shipping charges / currency fluctuations / landing cost. Most items are currently in stock and ready to courier nationwide.

The Phoenix Performance online store aims to provide well researched, high quality, affordable aftermarket performance parts to the South African motoring public.

Mission Statement

Phoenix Performance aims to provide well researched high quality affordable aftermarket performance parts to the South African motoring public by offering competitively priced products that have been personally tested and selected from registered and reputable suppliers, providing outstanding service and ensuring customers are satisfied as their passion is our passion.

GT86/BRZ Tuning

Due to our low grade octane pump fuel in South Africa, and the fact that the 86/BRZ OEM tune is suited for 98 RON fuel, the 86/BRZ is NOT making the claimed power figures, nor offering long-term mechanical reliability.
Because of this, the motors are experiencing high levels of detonation, resulting in ignition timing being retarded, fuel consumption increasing and power output being lost. NEVER run lower octane fuel then what a specific tune was intended for.

Our professional tunes aim to adequately and safely accommodate our locally available 95RON pump fuels and depending on fuel type and modifications, greatly surpass the stock power figures.
Our tunes also contain improvements to pedal sensitivity and response with greatly reduced fuel consumption.

All tunes also come with Flat Foot Shifting as well as Launch Control.

We have a wide range of tuning options for the GT86/BRZ, supporting a variety of modifications for either 95 Pump, E50, E85, with custom tuning for different modifications or fuels available on request.
We guarantee that if ever there are any updates to any tunes purchased by you, all future updates for that tune are 100% free of charge.

Parts

As proud distributors of various high quality parts, we are able to offer the community a range of modifications to suit their individual need.
Ranging from high powered turbo kits, thermal blankets, wraps, headers and more.

We are both confident and experienced in our services.
Please rest assured that with us, you have full local support for your 86/BRZ here in SA.

I'll definitely give the tune a go once I've fitted a BRZ exhaust.
Are you using EcuTek or OFT?

Yep - stock ECU, no need for any other hardware.
A new base Map simply gets flashed to your ECU and from there fine tuning gets done.

No extra hardware or licence fees involved.

I can only but say good things about Marco - he and Jared have built my 2.7l stroker, and the attention to detail and ethical behaviour is second to none I've seen locally.
Yeah man, exciting stuff!

Haha agreed about "secret weapon"

Well, we have only just started so quite a bit more to do, but Marco mentioned that he can see a lot that can still be done so quite a bit of potential tuning-wise...even in some of the "tunes" available for download.

Awesome stuff, that sounds like the Marco I know too!

Things are taking shape! I've been a little busy so havent had much time to do testing but will be making time this weekend. I'll be going out tonight though for a bit of logging.

So far its feeling awesome. Torque dip is greatly reduced and its sooo smooth. The best thing is that its all on normal 95 octane fuel with ZERO timing being pulled which is the main thing.

We did a log of the stock OEM tune on our 95 octane fuel we have here and the car was pulling so much timing from all the knock it was scary. Until you have a tune I would definitely be running at least a mild octane booster with every tank like NF Red or Liqui Molly.
Take the "95" only off of the inside of your petrol flap and you will see a sticker saying "98 Only"

So far, the car feels AS powerful on 95 on the latest revision of the 98 octane map I was running that was done by "another" overseas company. I just checked the logs out and there is ZERO det and timing being pulled.

Just one last table needs to be calibrated and then some timing is going to be added to see how far we can push on 95.

Stay "tuned" guys, its almost done!
