Shift Gate
Hey has anyone installed (custom or otherwise) a gated shifter like on the old school R8 or Gallardo? Price or link? Thanks!

AFAIK; nothing has been done & it's been stated that it would be too expensive to design. There are a few threads about it.

It's just a luxury and unnecessary feature.

Someone did it for a miata, and is producing it, but as said before, it's more for luxury than performance. |

I think for any car it wouldn't be cheap to have a professional do it because it would be time consuming, but I'm sure there are ways to make it cheaper. For instance, if you could design the dimensions of the pattern with a basic CAD program then that would greatly cut costs. Also, I would think a person would be better off having them cut the pattern in 6061 aluminum thin bar stock then to create a 3D effect someone could sand it and polish it into a dome shape. The alternative is to make a fiberglass mold with a carbon fiber top layer or metal cap.

While possible, there's always the question of "why?" If you drop something down in there, you're going to have issues. The entire shifter assembly has to be changed as it needs to be a thin rod (in the case of the Miata kit, they had to go further and flatten it on the sides). Reverse lockout would have to be removed, so you wouldn't have any real safety for reverse. Shifting is also slower, so it's not a performance mod at all...
