Question How do you feel about this?

Im looking for a new exhaust because i sold my invidia n1. (You guessed it, too droney lol)

So im looking for a new exhaust but i was wondering how you guys feel about exhaust set up that slips over, like they dont have any flange, they slip over each other with a clamp.

Is it good?
Is it bad?
Just as good as a flange or vband?

Tell me!

And if you guys have any suggestion for a nice catback that wont drone as much as the N1 tell me!
(I have gruppe s uel headers and over pipe, invidia resonated catless front pipe)
I have either the agency power or the greddy revolution rs in mind for now.

Thanks !!!

You mean cutting off an existing flange? Wouldn't be my first choice.

From my experience, exhausts that slip on are prone to leaking. No where near a flange or v band in terms of sealing. If I had the choice, the way to go would be v band all the way, but flanged exhausts are not too bad either.

You mean like Borla kits?
They last ok. Till they leak, but just a quick re torque and it's good till you re torque them or actually weld them shut.

Adding a cat back into the frontpipe will help drone too...

Been there. Will never do again. It can become a nightmare of shifting components and chasing leaks in a hurry. Tighten one clamp half a turn too much and you are screwed.

I've had the milltek catback on for close to a year, daily driven. It uses slip joints at the midpipe-to-muffler joint as well as from the muffler to the tips. No leaks or other issues.

When you install you should put it through a heat cycle (or several) and then retighten all the clamps once cooled. This will help prevent leaks. I also used anti-seize on all the joints which should help "seal" it to some extent

IMO catback choice comes down to exhaust note. As long as it's a reputable brand you should pick what sound you like best

Welp, back-in-the-day ........that's the way most all exhaust parts were put together. The exhaust pipe was bolted and flanged to the manifold, the muffler and tail pipe were slip joints. Usually that worked fine, with a little help from a muffler sealing compound .......

I feel the title of this thread is not very descriptive.

"Usually" being the operative word here. When they went wrong they went really, really wrong. I wish I had $1 for every one of those damned things I fought with. Get one pipe that is 1mm out of round and a simple task turns into a several hour battle.
