A little about me. I'm coming from a 2008 Volkswagen R32. #3378, one of 5000 brought to the US. All wheel drive, 3.2L VR6 engine. I owned the car for two and a half years - met a ton of AMAZING people through the car, the R32 community and the Volkswagen "scene" and learned a lot in that time as well.

I modded the R32 pretty extensively - Schrick camshafts, Tarox 10 piston big brake kit, a full Milltek exhaust (headers and downpipes included), H&R Coilovers, Forge Motorsport intake, fifteen52 wheels amongst other things and a plethora of OEM goodies as well. And yes, the car did shoot fireballs and sound like gunshots going off at WOT after a spark cut tune.

I'm not sure I will end up modding the FR-S as much as I did the R32, but that remains to be seen. Forced induction is the plan this time around. I realized, for the amount of money invested in trying to squeeze power out of the N/A powerplant in the R32, I could've boosted it and seen a way better horsepower to dollar spent ratio.

I remember hearing about the GT86/FR-S/BRZ when it first came out. It didn't particularly strike me as something I'd want. The numbers (particularly the torque) didn't scream "Oh wow, I want to drive that", especially with the very stout VR6 in my R32 that had seemingly endless torque down low.

But then, more and more videos of the car started ranting and raving about the car's handling capabilities - you'll notice a lot of the pictures of my R32 are of me ripping around in the mountains, straight line speed is fun and all but I love the twisties - and how much of an absolute blast it is to drive. More and more photos of the car itself began to surface - I couldn't get over how aesthetically pleasing the car was to look at.

Eventually, I wanted to see what all the hype was about. Eventually took one for a test drive and I was as good as sold at that point. For whatever reason, I felt like the R32 wasn't doing it for me anymore. Hard to believe to most I bet considering the amount of money I put into it and how much a lot of people really liked it. But the test drive in the FR-S kept coming back to me. I kept thinking about it, and how much I wanted to drive one everyday.

A painful partout process followed. It was tough to say goodbye. But it was time.

The rest is history. Loving the FR-S thus far and looking forward to becoming a part of this community.

I've put about 500 miles on the car up to this point. I figured I might be able to resist the mod bug but I didn't even last a week.

I ordered JDM-spec Tom's taillights from @468Power. Those should be arriving tomorrow.

I also ordered a bunch of suspension goodies from @FT-86 SpeedFactory. Jeremy is awesome and helped get me squared away on a bunch of stuff I needed. Ended up opting for @Racecomp Engineering Tarmac Zero's after debating over them and KW V3's for what seemed like days and SPC Lower Control Arms and front camber bolts. I already knew I was going to de-badge the FR-S in the rear and swap the Scion badges for Toyota ones so picked up the Toyota emblems as well.

So much for this car remaining stock.

Hah, in a perfect world, I would've been able to pass that car along to my wife. She loved driving it.

I think once her current Jetta lease is up, she wants to get into something Audi or BMW. Who knows? Maybe she'll end up loving an FR-S. Gotta teach her to drive a manual in that case though.

Did you post on vwvortex at all? I had a build thread going there. It ended up being the longest and most viewed and replied to build thread in the MKV R32 forum there.

You have to let me know what you have.

I'd love to find a five axis or stivo spoiler in whiteout.

Thanks for being honest about the shipment delay from Tom's by the way. I know I came off as a little impatient via PM's. I just don't like being out of the loop.

I just finished installing the tails, they look great.

I followed this DIY - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40235 posted by @RallySport Direct. The hardest part of the install was just trying to change out the LED Relay. I've got pretty big hands so banged up my knuckles a bit before I got it done. lol.

Tips:

- Slide yourself under the dash, looking up at the relay. Made more sense when I could see what I needed to undo to get it out.
- Pulled the white clip out of the under dash beam. Gave me slack to pull the harness out of the relay easier.
- You can remove the white clip from the stock relay by pushing the little clip down with a small flat head and sliding it out. From there, put it onto the new LED relay and reattach it under the dash before connecting the harness to the relay.

Other than that, pretty self explanatory install.

:happy0180:

Don't mind the vanity plate. It's from my old car. I've yet to think of anything witty for this car just yet. It was a bit of an inside joke with friends and my wife and played into the R in "R32". I figure I will rock it for a bit after transferring it from my old car.

The Tom's look amazing! And my post might make it seem a bit easier to get that relay than it really is, I forget that not everyone has little hands like I do haha.

Thanks,
Rick

Honestly, as I read the DIY, I'm like okay, easy enough. Than I get to the relay and I'm sitting there with a flathead thinking to myself, what the hell?

It's always more difficult the first time around. If I had to do it again, I'd have old relay out and new relay in in a matter of minutes. It's not only until we've busted and bloodied our hands until we truly learn how to do something.

The DIY was extremely helpful. Thanks again!

Awesome. H20 is coming up for you guys in Ocean City, isn't it? That's a bit of a hike for me. I'll still probably make the trek up to Northern Georgia for Southern Worthersee every year though, even in this car.

Far too many friends to see and good times to be had at that show. Not to mention, some pretty decent mountain roads to rip up. It really is an amazing weekend.

Ever been to SoWo?
