Based on the now-known $24,200 US price, the CDN cost
An estimate of CAD pricing: First note the 8.4% markup on the current tC:
U.S. tC starts at $19,305 USD Canada tC starts at $20,940 CAD Adding that 8.4% to the $24,200 US price gives a $26,233 CDN MSRP. Quote:
For OTD, add (in Ontario): $1,495 Freight + $100 A/C tax + $15 tire tax + 13% HST giving $31,463.36 OTD (assuming HST is collected on all other costs). If the above holds, that is actually a bit better than I expect - I suspect we we may in fact see an MSRP of about $27,500. |

As much as I like this car... I still think this is quite expensive. I know it is still cheaper than a GenCoupe (since the price hike for 2013), but... dunno. I may start looking for a used 335i coupe.

^^ The extra 1 grand for freight over the US is a ripoff. but otherwise comparatively speaking the markup is not bad.
If you are serious about the Bimmer, be sure to do your homework on the exorbitant maintenance costs. |

Someone pointed out in another thread that the iQ costs the same in both markets. On the one hand, that argues for closer price parity for the FR-S since the iQ is the most recent vehicle released by Scion here and so best adjusted to current exchange rates. But it is also the cheapest Scion, and buyers are most price-sensitive on the cheapest cars. There might be more willingness on Scion's part to charge a greater % premium over US MSRP on their "high-end" vehicle, just as Subaru does for its WRX and STI. So we can't assume that the FR-S will get the same level of price parity as the iQ.

I agree with your estimate.
Also, if you look at the GenCoupe pricing, the US pricing falls $50 less than the base Genesis. $USD 24,250 vs $24,200 for the FR-S. Since the Canadian GenCoupe is $26,499, I would guess the Cdn FR-S pricing should fall slightly under that. And if you compare the iQ USD vs Cdn, it is only 4.78% higher. $24,200 USD x 1.0478 = $25,356.76 So my guess is $25,995 for the Cdn FR-S. But as long as it's close, I'll buy one. I like the look of the FR-S over the BRZ. Quote:

My guess is between $26000 and $27000. The problem is that I can buy a Mustang V6 for a lot less or a Genesis Coupe R-Spec for the same if you pay cash. Scion is going to sell the cars at MSRP. Hyundai sells cars with big cash rebates and $500 above invoice.
It's 8% markup on pretty much all Scions over the US cars which isn't great, but it's not bad either. Subaru Impreza WRX 5 door: USA: $25595 Canada: $33400 - 31% markup you F-U-C-King bastards! Scion TC: USA: $19300 Canada: $20850 - 8% Markup 2012 Genesis Coupe 2.0T: USA: $22250 Canada: $24899 (Plus $2500 cash rebate) - 11% - But equal when paying cash. Mazda Miata Base: USA: $23200 Canada: $29000 - 25% markup Ford Mustang V6 Base: USA: $22310 Canada: $22249 - V6 is cheap here but the V8 costs $9000 more! Toyota Camry: USA: $20195 Canada: $23700 - 16% markup Lexus IS 250: USA: $33595 Canada: $33895 - 1% markup! Honda Civic SI: USA: $22405 Canada: $26000 - 17% markup BMW 128I: USA: $31050 Canada: $36000 - 16% markup Audi A4: USA: $32500 Canada: $37800 - 15% markup Porsche 911: USA: $82100 Canada: $93700 - 15% markup Infiniti G37 Coupe: USA: $37600 Canada: $46700 - 25% markup Nissan 370z: USA: $31500 Canada: $41000 - 30% markup |

$31k is reasonable for a bare bones car? With zero features? You're insane.

Show me a car that is substantially cheaper with any of those features. It sucks, but car prices are going up. $30k is the new $20k. If you look at the list I posted above, you can't get a sporty car for less than $30000 OTD in Canada anymore. A Scion TC is with NO EXTRAS is $25000 in Ontario.

While the handling might be fairly close, in terms of performance, power, torque, "feel" they are in two different worlds. Just because the center of gravity are close does not put them in the same category. |
