DETROIT (Jan. 14, 2019) – Sports car enthusiasts have been waiting more than 20 years for the return of Supra and will soon be able to purchase the 2020 Toyota GR Supra for a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $49,990.

For those fans and collectors anxious to be among the first owners of this iconic sports car, the initial 1,500 production Supras for the U.S. will be Launch Edition models starting at $55,250. Each will be uniquely numbered and have distinctive features signifying the exclusivity and excitement of Supra’s return. Toyota dealers will be handling all orders and the Launch Edition models go on sale in Summer 2019 starting at $55,250.

The Supra Launch Edition will be available in exterior colors of Absolute Zero White, Nocturnal Black or Renaissance Red 2.0, each featuring high-contrast red mirror caps and 19-inch forged matte black alloy wheels.

The Absolute Zero White and Nocturnal Black Supra Launch Editions will have a red interior. Each of the racing-inspired seats will be wrapped in red leather, with red leather steering wheel grips, and a red center console with carbon-fiber accents.

The Renaissance Red 2.0 Supra Launch Edition will feature a black leather-trimmed interior, with black seats, a black steering wheel, and black center console. The black interior will also feature carbon-fiber accents.

The first 1,500 Supras will feature an individually numbered carbon-fiber badge on the passenger-side dashboard complete with a graphic of Toyota Motor Corporation President and Master Driver Akio Toyoda’s signature.

Different Grades, Same Power
The 2020 Supra will be available in two grades: 3.0 and 3.0 Premium. Both will be powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine that produces 335 hp and 365 lb-ft of torque and is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with racing-style paddle shifters. Both grades will also come standard with serious performance features including adaptive suspension, an active rear differential and launch control.
The 3.0 grade has a 6.5-inch display with Bluetooth and iPod capability, as well as Alcantara seats. Navigation and JBL Audio will be an available option for an additional $2,460.

The 3.0 Premium grade will feature an upgraded 8.8-inch wide-format touchscreen display with Navigation, Supra Connect telematics services, wireless Apple CarPlay, a premium 12-speaker JBL audio system, wireless phone charging and a color Head-Up Display. The 3.0 Premium grade will also feature heated, leather-trimmed seats.

The Supra Launch Edition will be based on the 3.0 Premium grade.

Standard safety features on both grades, as well as the Launch Edition, include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, road sign assist and automatic high beams.

The Driver Assist Package is an additional suite of safety features that will be optional on both grades for an additional $1,195. It includes full speed adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, parking sonar and rear collision warning.

Given the stock dynos of 335i's and 340i's, this "335hp" won't be far off the wheel HP. Automotive partnerships make weird agreements all the time, like when both cars make 385hp but one side down plays it to differentiate the models.

it's probably due to something called market segmentation.

Wait, you prefer the actual frankenstein OEM mish-mash kit car (GS/IS-offspring RC) because the Supra looks like a mish-mash kit car?

I definitely agree it looks better in the video. I can honestly say I like it more than I thought it would, at least externally. Not really digging the interior.

...and on the second video, wow is that guy annoying. I had to stop just has he got to the "and I've ordered one!" statement about 10 seconds in. Just a little too perky...

I like the stance of the car better in the real photos than some of the renders or driving shots that I have seen previously. It also looks wider and lower than it did in those shots which is good. Overall, I like the look. The only caveats there are the slight "nose up" attitude and the narrowing of the cockpit area which is exaggerated by the dual roof bubble. I will give that a pass due to the need to provide adequate headroon. I am a tall guy.

The interior looks 100% BMW and GT to me. It does not look like a sports car. That is OK with me because I owned both a 1989 Supra and a 1993 Supra and I did not consider either of them a sports car. To me, they were both nice GT cars.

I am impressed that they are managing to get one model below the $50K price point. I, long ago, predicted prices between $55K and $63K for the Supra. In my defense, I expected two Supra 6 cylinder models with the lower one having the 335 HP motor and the more expensive Premium model equipping the 382HP version of the same engine. It is nice that they have a cheaper base model and I hope that this means that we may eventually see the 4 Cylinder turbo in NA with a price in the sub $40K range. That would be a model that would interest me.

The new Supra is a very interesting car. I look forward to seeing it on the street. It will not be a sports car that I will want to own myself because I like my sports cars to be a lot lighter, more raw and minimalistic.

I like how they continue to emphasize the "traditional" 6 cylinder inline engine but never once mention it as being a BMW power plant. They just cover it under a huge plastic cowling with the Toyota emblem on it. This is the Halo car for Toyota. It seems a bit blasphemous that it is actually a BMW under that shapely skin. And a bit sad.

Not even really sure they are trying to hide the BMW roots very much. From some of the photos I saw it still has BMW stamped (literally) all over it. One of the videos shows some examples.

This is really no different than the 86, which has more Subaru badged parts in it than Toyota.

Being the current owner of a M240i the interior is 100% BMW.

The only piece that might be Toyota would be the seats.

The Supra is current gen BMW interior design with the Z4 is next gen BMW interior design.

It sux that the Supra is getting the cheapo ugly BMW steering wheel vs the nice M Performance one.

Yes, they claim to be resurrecting fun driving and sports cars but they cannot seem to build a sports car worthy engine to save their soul. If they ever do try to resurrect the MR2 who will build that car for them? Hyundai?
