OFT 91 vs 93 maps
Hey guys, I have a couple of questions regarding the Openflash Tablet OTS maps.
I had been running the standard Stage 1 91 octane map while using 93 octane. and was very pleased with it. Much more throttle response, linear power band etc. So, i downloaded the Stage 1 93 octane map and thought it would be better. That was not the case for me at all. The 93 map felt more like the stock tune. I felt a noticeable decrease in throttle response, power and everything. I thought maybe it was in my head and i just got used to the tune. I ran it for about a week and switched back to the Stage 1 91 octane map and everything improved immediately. Any reason why the 91 map feels better than the 93 map? Also, is there any issue with just using the Stage 1 91 octane map while running 93 octane? Thanks for any input. |

The only difference between the two maps is in a region above 6000 RPM where the 93 octane tune has a little more timing so it's odd that you would see such a big difference. I'm referring the most recent OTS tunes BTW.
You can use the 91 map with 93 octane no problem. |

You can always use a higher octane fuel than your tune, you just can't go lower (or rather shouldn't if you value your engine).
I was thinking it was just the ECU learning the map but you said you ran it for a week and it didn't get better. Maybe just confirm you have the correct map loaded is the only thing I can think of. |

maybe the 93oct you ran was a bad batch and with the 93oct tune, you had less headroom than compared to the 91oct. that's the only reason I can think of.

Did you log any of the knock parameters at all? The ECU is very aggressive about pulling timing for knock. If you're knocking on the 93 tune it is probably pulling timing out below what the 91 tune provides.

x 2 I used to run 93 tune all time but switched to 91 tune. I sometimes see my IAM drops sometimes it doesnt. sometimes i see minor knock sometimes not.. very small minor that wont blow my car up but tired of looking at OFT tablet everytime i drive. |

FWIW, I don't think there is enough of a difference between the 91 and 93 tunes to register on the butt dyno.
I use 93 when it's available, but there's a few stations that are convenient for me where the best they have is 92 octane. This fact aside, I run the 91 tune using 92/93 gas and am completely satisfied. I'd prefer to lose the bit of power I probably wouldn't notice anyway over having an engine that could be knocking and such. Healthier running engine > 1-2 unnoticeable hp gain. |

Thanks guys. I didnt do any data logging. To be honest i wouldn't even know what im looking for with that. It could be the gas i use. I typically use sunoco 93 because it is the only gas i have found that does not cause the crickets. Maybe i will try it again with a different gas.

I've got a fix for this. I have no idea why it works, but it does. Believe it may have something to do with the car running some diagnostics involving the gas pedal (drive by wire): 1. After flash, turn key off. 2. Turn key to accessory (1 click before starting). 3. Wait 30 seconds. 4. Turn key off. Turn key back to accessory. 5. Wait 30 seconds. 6. Turn key off. Turn car on. 7. Let car idle for 1 minute. 8. Turn car off. Done! No more sloppy throttle

This is a known method, bruno. Im pretty sure it's to calibrate accelerator position after flashing.

Yup that's what I do, even after taking off when you let it sit and idle for a minute it's still a little sluggish. I don't mind it mostly because I know it'll fix itself after some miles

If it's not the throttle then it's usually due to fuel trims being off.

That's normal it's still learning the fuel trims for the first 30-50 miles on that tune....
