Any one have 5.29 gears yet ?

I was debating between 4.88 and 5.29 gears. Car is a 2014 Manual brz. I rarely ever see a 55mph limit road , 99% of my driving is in a small town and on beautiful western Pa 35 mph windy back roads. The car will never see forced induction , if I want a ton of speed I'll just buy a faster car.

Dont do it for a street car, you will regret it. Probably only useful for a track only car that sees very small tracks or a autoX car. 4.88 is as high as you can go without it just hurting you more than it would help. My $0.02 as someone who has run with a 4.88 on the street and on 9 track days so far (over 20 track days before on stock ratio).

4.88 is plenty good for your needs.

Just think of it as you're in a gear lower. if you're in 3rd most of the time 4.88 will feel like its in 2nd

I tried the 5.29 on a manual and hated every minute they were in there. First gear is useless and second wasn't much better. I suggest 4.56 with E85 STG 2 Tune. 4.88 would be my 2nd choice but last on the list as it cuts into the 1st gear usage somewhat....

Thanks for the advice to everyone. I'm gonna go with the 4.88 setup. I'd love to do the e85 tune but the closest station is 30 miles away so I'm gonna be stuck with a 93 tune.

I have the 5.29 gear set of my car (manual) and I don't think 1st and 2nd gear are useless. Yes they are short but that was the whole point of getting the shorter gearing in the first place. Even on a stock car most of the driving is done from 3-5 which is where this gear is great. I also track my car a lot and I have found it to be fine on the street.

If possible, can you post a quick video of you running through the gears?

My computer isn't working now or I would upload the SmartyCam videos for you to see. Acceleration wise the car is even with cars with headers and tunes. My engine is totally stock.

what about 5.1 ? I have it for 2 years now , no issue for DD , autoX , drift and track . Still shift to 1st at tight U turn and 360 , on track good power from 100km-190km and the 6th is useful .

Aw... shit and here i am waiting for a 3.7 drop in kit that doesnt involve a salvage yard rebuild. 4.8+ is going to make first gear suck for damn sure. Youll probably eat the hell out of your clutch and start eating gears.

4.8 feels *just* usable on my AT. I'd be incredibly annoyed with it if I had MT. I can't even imagine a 5.29.

GsxrMe: imho for your taste close gear gearset might benefit more then FD then, with moving 1st & 2nd gear ratios longer/closer to rest. That price though
