FT86 Motorsports Oil Cooler Kit

Anyone own one of these? Any feedback? pros/cons.

Comparing between Mishimoto and FT86MS.

Ft86motorsports is using a RacerX thermostatic sandwich plate which is comparable to Mocal. Both 19 row so cooling surface area is good. I would be under the impression its a decent product.

Only differences I can find are the mounting hardware.

Any info/feedback greatly appreciated.

Have the Mishimoto, does what it's supposed to do (seeing temps in the 102-105C range at Mosport). We did the installation, just have to be patient with routing the oil line from the cooler to the oil filter. Don't drive the car in the winter so no comment there.

I've got the Mishimoto thermostatic version, zero issues (no leaks or sweating), and it's winter driven.

I had/have the Mishimoto oil cooler kit. The thermostat plate leaked and pissed all over the engine. I was just lucky it didn't cause a fire. I had the kit professionally installed and the installer came to pick up the car with the trailer. He tried to correct the Mishimoto parts with new gaskets and fittings and it still leaked. I ended up using the Kraftwerks oil filter adapter and the Mishimoto lines and cooler and have not had a problem with it since. Keep in mind my car is only tracked and not street driven. Although the leak happened driving home from the shop after install. It could have just been a bad batch of machining, as others have had no problems with the Mishimoto kit.

My mishimoto core just sprung a leak, no visible damage to the core but it's definitely leaking from one of the bars. Pulled the kit until I can get a replacement core and still no leaks or sweating from anywhere else!

Well that sucks, or is it well that leaks

When I had the car tech'ed last week, the elbows that connect to the filter and to the oil lines, the elbows were a little loose and had that tightened. Oil lines to the elbows themselves were tight.

No I didn’t bother. I’m figured it’s racing parts and there is no warranty. I also didn’t want to run a thermostat anyway.

After my leak I had read about other people had issues with some core leaks so I bought a back-up Setrab cooler that’s about 125% the size of the mishimoto one. If I get to point that I have to install that I’ll just replace the Mishimoto lines at the same time.

Interna - have you purchased a cooler yet?

If not, www.dsgperformance.com in Montreal is a Mishimoto Dealer and www.ft86motorsports.com have great prices and no funky shipping issues since they in Ontario.
