and out of all these options it seems this 0W-30 is the bet all-around (e.g. cold weather starts, high temperature engine protection, bumper to bumper stop and go traffic), and lists BRZ specifically listed as a suitable car:

It doesn't seem to matter how much I dig around the internet or read about oil and engine physics, I am still torn between 0w20 and 0w30. On one hand, I drive my cars hard and will be tracking my BRZ a couple track days per month. I "think" I am settled in 0w30, but so many use 0w20 on the track and don't seem to be having any engines going "pop".

What to do....What to do...

If you track the car, use an oil that meets the same specs as the above 0W30. ACEA A3 oils are more likely to stay in grade and be more resistant to shear than a GF5 0W30.

Considering the Japanese manual even recommends up to 5w40, I feel safe in choosing a good heavier oil based on the specs of their recommended stocks.

This is also the high-performance specs for oil recommended by Subaru in Japan:

LES PLEIADES Zero 0w30.

It's specs are just slightly lower than Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 0w40...
