Toyota To Debut North America’s 2018 C-HR At LA Show

http://www.carscoops.com/2016/11/toy...as-2018-c.html

Quote:
Having already launched their new, funky C-HR in several markets around the world, it’s time for Toyota to introduce the North American version of the compact crossover to the U.S. and consequently, Canada too.

The North American specification C-HR, which was initially pegged to Scion before Toyota decided to kill the brand, will debut at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 17.

Toyota hasn’t verified the available powertrains for the C-HR that will go on sale in the States next year, but in other parts of the world, it’s available with two gasoline engines, a 114hp 1.2-liter turbocharged four paired to a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT, and a 142hp 2.0-liter mated exclusively to a CVT, plus a hybrid variant with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder mated to an electric motor producing 120hp.

Front-wheel drive should come as standard, with all-wheel drive being optional.

The Japanese brand calls the C-HR a compact model, but at 171.7 in. (4,360 mm) long, 70.7 in. (1,795 mm) wide and 1,550 mm (61 in.) tall, with a 103.9 in. (2,640 mm) wheelbase, it’s in-between categories, being bigger than the Juke (162.4 in. / 4,125 mm long 99.6 in / 2,530 mm wheelbase), but smaller than the RAV-4 (179.9 in. / 4,570 mm long, 104.7 in / 2,660 mm wheelbase). Honda’s HR-V (169.1 in. / 4,295 mm long, 102.8 in. / 2,610 mm should be one of its closest rivals.

If it drives as well as it looks, this could be a good utility vehicle to complement a fun car.

Agreed. It also needs a 2.0L i4 Turbo, but it probably won't get one even when it comes to North America. Still our powerplants will be better than the Euro spec ones noted below. I think it's going to end up with the 1.6L i4 found in the iM/Auris which is a little sleepy. Otherwise it's Hybrid city, and we're doomed for a car that looks faster than it is.

Alfa Stelvio here I come.

Toyota Launches US-Spec 2018 C-HR Compact Crossover

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvEvge1We3s[/ame]

Quote:
The small crossover that would be a Scion, if the sub-brand were still alive, made its Stateside debut at the LA Auto Show eight months after its launch at Geneva.

Slotting below the RAV-4 and set to take on the likes of Honda's HR-V, the C-HR is essentially the same car as the one sold in the rest of the world. Well, make that almost the same, as in the US it will be solely available with a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four with 144 HP mated to a CVT transmission driving the front wheels.

So, no 1.2 turbo or hybrid for this side of the pond, at least for now. That "compact" label is a bit of a misnomer, too, as actually the C-HR sits between sub-compact and compact crossovers.

The CH-R will be available next spring in two grade levels. The base XLE comes with features like a dual-climate control, a seven-inch touchscreen display and 18-inch alloys as standard, while the XLE Premium adds a blind spot monitor and heated front seats, among others.

Toyota stresses that both trims sport its Safety Sense P driver assist and safety suite that consists of a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Automatic High Beam.

Those are some crazy/seductive lines that definitely give it character. Looks better than a Juke or HR-V.

Saw this at the L.A. Auto Show a week or so back. Lots great in person. This was the hit that probably would have "saved" Scion. Toyota gets it now and I'm sure Toyota North America execs are thrilled.

Toyota C-HR Gets TRD And Modellista Upgrades In Japan

Quote:
For Japanese customers of the brand new Toyota C-HR who want even more eye-catching styling, the brand's in-house tuners, TRD and Modellista, have released a comprehensive range of modifications.

Toyota Racing Development has designed two different collections for the C-HR, both offering unique touches and combining together to create two distinctive looks.

The first collection, dubbed Aggressive Style, gives the model a particularly menacing look with a new front bumper that can be joined with LED daytime running lights. Additionally, the model includes a new rear diffuser, extended side skirts and a lip spoiler on the tailgate.

The second option, coined Extreme Style, includes black wheel arches, bright red mud flaps, a more subtle front end and a set of 16-inch alloy wheels as standard, finished in black or silver.

Other modifications available from TRD include sports seat covers, a motion control beam for the suspension system, tire pressure monitoring system, start/stop ignition button and door handle protectors.

As for the modifications created by Modellista for the C-HR, they too are rather head-turning. The Elegant Ice Style pack has a number of chrome accents, custom front and rear bumpers and new side skirts, while the Boost Impulse Style aero kit is slightly more in-your-face with a beefy and exceptionally low front bumper, LED daytime running lights and the option of distinctive 17- or 19-inch wheels.

I predict this to be a big seller in North America.

In fact, possibly better seller than the RAV.

Congrats Toyota!
