Ok not to be a complete idiot but I have to ask anyway. What the heck is opti-guard? Ive seen the term tossed around a bit and have no clue what this is. And is it the same thing that CBR600RR was talking about as Opti-coat? or that something different as well.

Edit: nevermind .. search was my friend, who woulda thunk to search first then ask silly question.

@execoll

Ya they are both essentially the same thing.

Best way to describe it is as a 'perminant wax' that never wears off. Basically, now I wash my car and dry it off and it looks like it was just waxed. Water beads off it like how water beads off a rain-X'd windshield. It is really convenient.

Opti-coat/guard forms a perminant bond with the clear coat. Hence the suggestion to have it applied by a professional.

Edit: not a silly question. But search is your friend lol

Unfortunately I don't have any pics of the process, but it is really simple.

1. Place your order with Carson Toyota (FT86 vendor) for the JDM side fender 86 piston badge.

2. Remove the old badge using fishing line and your GF's hair dryer. (hair dryer to heat up the scion badge and the adheasive behind it. fishing line to kinda 'saw' the adheasive behind the badge)

3. Once you have the badge off use goo gone and a microfiber on the remaining adheasive.

4. Take your 86 piston badge and cut off the guide pins on the back side with a sharp exacto blade. make sure that they do not stick out past the back profile, so the badge can sit flush.

5. Remove the adheasive cover on the back of the badge. line up the badge to center and covering all the old guide holes on the trunk lid. then stick it on. (NOTE: once the adheasive touches the paint you will not be able to adjust the badge at all without removing it just like you did with the scion badge, so be careful and be accurate)

Nice, I have the same setup minus the FRS logo. no red on my 86 badge though. I'm getting a lot less challenges at the red light now
