Remember though, an accidental lab leak being “plausible” is far, far, far from the engineered virus trope that seems popular in some circles. Isn’t it?

If the virus origins are eventually shown to confirm the lab leak theory, China must be held to account. Reparations seems like a good first step. But, it's going to be hard to prove without the full cooperation and transparency of China that's so far missing.

"The trouble with this hypothesis is that Chinese researchers have not succeeded in finding a “direct progenitor” of this virus in any animal they’ve looked at. Liang said China had tested 50,000 animal specimens, including 1,100 bats in Hubei province, where Wuhan is located. But no luck: a matching virus still hasn’t been found."

I don't think people thought it was "dumb" but that it was unsubstantiated, and so people were less-inclined to believe it. Plus the assumptions being made didn't help.

If there aren't verifiable facts to go off of then why should people accept a theory like that?

Fun bit on this, the current theory is actually a different one than was originally being touted. At first the theory was it was engineered as a bio weapon (which is still pretty ridiculous from a logical standpoint). Now it has been changed to a byproduct of study meant to prevent pandemics. The original theorists are claiming they always meant it this way because they can't afford to admit they were wrong about something. It's pretty easy to change a story when you don't have a fully formed understanding of the thing you are talking about.

Been feeling rather shitty as of late so I picked up an at home test kit from Walgreens when I grabbed my bp meds. Negative. I'll chalk my wellness up to allergies and working outside in the heat and humidity.

Or do have an understanding but may intentionally be less than truthful. That's one of the points in the MIT Technology Review link.

"The Chinese team appears to strongly favor a twist on the intermediate-animal idea: that the virus could have reached Wuhan on a frozen food shipment that included a frozen wild animal. This “cold chain” hypothesis may have appeal because it would mean the virus came from thousands of miles away, even outside China."

In other news, PFE stock price is at an all-time high.

And to think, just a short month ago people were ridiculing PPE makers for “overproduction. “

Edit: I don’t think I’d short them just yet.

More like it's easy to change a story, period.

People have limited attention and favor things that reinforce their beliefs.

The news straight up changed the story on the lockdown of Wuhan from "city locked down, no one allowed to leave! Scary!" to "a bunch of people flew out between [before the lockdown] and [after the lockdown]" to "people were allowed to fly out during the lockdown" (chartered flights by other countries to get their citizens out of the city as an exception to the airport shutdown).

Another example is the whole "human to human transmission" debacle. The news reported human to human transmission being confirmed on January 14th, but then later they started saying it was confirmed a week later.

Before 2020, I didn't think mainstream publications had the balls to self-contradict so many times in a row, but here we are...you can have the same paper changing the dates around several times, you can have the same eyewitness changing their story from one interview to the next, and most people don't notice.

This is why I bought my Aston Martin. I figure the world is coming to an end, so I might as well enjoy a gas guzzling exotic car while I can XD

So now the governor, after making hash of her initial COVID vaccination plan favoring her pet groups vs. actual high risk groups, is handing decision making over to the county governments.

This won't go well, will create chaos and may lead to the unintended spread of Delta. Counties barely have the brainpower to collect property taxes let alone invent pandemic relief policies.

All I want is what I called for earlier, an effective national mask specification.

Anecdotally, there are more U-Hauls heading east on I-84 than I've ever seen.

What about the kouki vs zenki models of COVID? I heard there's an increase in the compression ratio?

If you are looking for a dumb ass governor we have one of the best. I’ll sell the guy. Just wire the money (tbd) go the capital and tell the friendly men in the funny hats with the guns “The Captain sent me.” What could go wrong?

I can guarantee, this guy is the dumbest dumbass governor west of Prague.

Edit: would a “who has the dumbest dumbass governor? poll be too political?

“Oh really”

“Hmmmm. “

“Ok. Thanks for the advice. “

Scrap the poll idea.
