I forgot to reply but ended up purchasing the single piece dash and its a near perfect fit. It shows up on the parts list when looking up spare parts on Subaru's website. Love the function of this unit though it works so well and looks so clean.

Option 2 (Upgrade): (28-pin/Direct wire harness for Pioneer Headunits/USB harness/AM/FM adapter)

I did the complete upgrade which included the USB harness and antenna adapter. Definitely a no-brainer.

Thanks!

I assume that since I have a US 2017 BRZ, I'll also need the Canadian one-piece dash trim for this 200mm radio to fit right?

So for a US 2017 BRZ I'd need:
Pioneer AVH-ZL5150BT - $459.93 + shipping from fasmoto
Install Kit (Option 2) - $99 + shipping from AutoHarnessHouse
Canadian one-piece leatherette dash trim with red stitching - $160.57 + shipping from FT-86 SpeedFactory

So, about $720 + shipping total. Damn...

Not 100% sure, but why would you need a new dash piece (unless you want it of course). Wasn't the original radio also 200mm?

The original radio from 2013-2015 in all BRZs was 200mm like this Pioneer unit.

In 2016, the US BRZ jumped to the Starlink head unit which is larger and trapezoidal in shape compared to the earlier unit. Therefore, you need to get a dashboard trim piece from either a 2016-2017 Canadian BRZ or a pre-2016 car from any market order to have a flush fit. The 2017 Canadian trim piece is preferred as it is a one-piece panel, and is wrapped in a leather matched to the seats, with red stitching.

The Canadian market BRZ kept the original style radio until 2017. It switched to the newer, CarPlay compatible unit in 2018 which came out for US market cars the same year.

So I ordered the AVH-ZL5150BT, can you link the one adapter that you got from AHH? I think as I've read through all the posts that ultimately that was the only one you used, correct? I'm in a Canadian 2017 BRZ model same as you.
The Steering wheel controls you used the one that came with the new HU if I read correctly.

I've just ordered the HU from Fasmoto. Thanks for all the work putting this in here to make it easier for others.

Here's the link to their page for the BRZ:
https://www.autoharnesshouse.com/67122.html

The steering wheel controls are part of the 28-pin kit. Are you using a Maestro SW steering wheel control retention module?

If you're using the "option 2 direct wire adapter" with the AVH unit, then it's super easy to install.

"Another update! AutoHarnessHouse has confirmed that the 2016-2017 Canadian BRZ has the same harness as the 2015 and earlier cars. They are sending me an updated harness that should fix the issues.

So, if you have a US car with the updated headunit, you’ll have no issue with the harness on their website; however if you have a Canadian 2016-2017 BRZ, order the harness they offer for the 2015 and earlier model years and you should be good.

I have to thank AutoHarnessHouse for helping me out on this. They were awesome to deal with in regards to solving this issue and I would not hesitate to recommend them one bit. If you want a plug and play solution for a headunit in your 86/BRZ, among other vehicles, look no further than them."

Mine is a 2017 Canadian model so I think I'll have the same issue as him. Was wondering if he had the part number when they sorted it out. The 28 pin model didn't work alone and needed a 16 pin harness as well.

Hey man! I’ve been busy this weekend but I will dig through my correspondence with AHH and figure out what you need. If I recall correctly, you should order the 2015 harness and then ask for steering wheel controls to be placed on the 28 pin adapter. I’ll follow up shortly.
